Experimenting with the Placebo Effect in Solo queue
Hello League Community!
So looking into the future, I wanted some material on what to write a college paper on. Most of my college papers so far have been topic of choice, so I had decided that I wanted to write a paper on League and equate it to something that happens on occasion. That "something" is mentality inhibiting your true potential. You have probably heard of mentality in terms of Solo Queue as a lot of people manage to go on tilt due to a poor mindset, myself included. So how does the Placebo Effect work with this? Its simple, invent a way in which the individual believes that specific item is "magically gaining them ELO." A great way to convince them to do so is to go on a win streak in solo queue then put a summoner icon and explain to that person how "the icon has a glitch to it and it helps you win more games". You cannot convince everybody with this, but so far it has worked on 5 of my friends. I had used the mountain default icon after going on a 13 win streak and decided to play the game with a friend who thought it was impossible to get out of silver. He tried it out and he went from 0 LP Silver 2 to 100 LP Silver 1 in a day and is probably going to get to his season goal which is Gold 5. (This had also worked on my other 4 friends, they are climbing but not as quickly) The intention of this is to not deceive your friends, instead it is to test how much mentality matters in this game. Try it out on a friend you think is inhibited by their potential!
