What people seem to really refuse to acknowledge about the RGM this season has been established per patch instead of per week. While I like the idea of a random draw, a weighted draw just depreciates the "random" factor. Not to mention that certain game modes may not even be compatible or able to deploy with the new client as of yet (Hexakill being a big example). Some of those modes have also been touted as specialty modes based on patch (BMB, Blood Moon, Dark Star) so I would honestly omit those should unless more effort and testing does actually come for them.
But in interest and boredom, I decided to take your example and apply it to 8 game modes rated and weighted on "popularity."
- URF (0-29)
- Ascension (30-49)
- Hexakill TT (50-64)
- Dominion (65-74)
- OFA (75-84)
- ARSR (85-89)
- Nexus Siege (90-94)
- Poro King (95-99)
Each of the number ranges is basically represented as a percentage. These numbers were put into a random number generator and would effectively be the game for each patch of a hypothetical season. This is how the RGM's turned out:
Patch 1: Nexus Siege
Patch 2: URF
Patch 3: Hexakill
Patch 4 and 5: Ascension
Patch 6: URF
Patch 7 and 8: Ascension
Patch 9 through 12: URF
Patch 13: Nexus Siege
Patch 14: Ascension
Patch 15 and 16: Hexakill
Patch 17: Ascension
Patch 18: Dominion
Patch 19: Nexus Siege
Patch 20: Ascension
Patch 21: One For All
Numerically for a season (and if by blind announcement) we're talking:
- 7 Ascension modes
- 6 URF modes
- 3 Hexakill modes
- 3 Nexus Siege modes
- 1 Dominion mode
- 1 OFA mode
- 0 Poro King mode
- 0 ARSR mode
Should the trend have been like the season has been so far and with this particular pre season scheduled draw, we'd be talking month long RGMs for 5 months with URF being the RGM for 2 months straight! And that's through patches which in the past have needed diligent testing for new champions and items for that game mode specifically.
While some people would be perfectly fine with that, especially those who openly despise that specific gamemode, don't you think that's a little bit much to please that stubborn community base and a little bit unfair to players who would prefer a more proper grab bag of game modes to look forward to? It's like spoon feeding the same meal over and over based off of a fixed wheel (and sure in this case it is quite limited but that's been evident from the new client). And it would just remove its novelty. It's not really that hard to think about.
