Why does ranked seem to have way more connection issues?

Been playing at 40 ping all day. The second I go into ranked I end up with 500-800 ping all game, same as my adc. We literally just lost a game because 2 people just couldn't play, when just the last game had no problems. And no, we were not duo or anything, 2 random people both get screwed. And the enemy team literally won because it.

And this isn't a matter of having bad connection, but that for some reason ranked seems to be way worse. I just checked right after that in a custom game. 40 ping. So why last game did I get a minimum of 200, and an average of 500, maxing upwards into the 900s sometimes. Literally nothing was changed, except one of the games was ranked.
