I think I'm done with this game (community awful)

A friend of mine had just started playing not too long ago. He was a complete noob and like so many others before him didn't know what he was doing but being level 5 he figured that that didn't matter. He played a few games against bots and then decided to try his hands at real people. Surprisingly to him the other "level 5" players expected him to know the meta already and to play at a level that no noob should be expected to play at. He, of course, got completely wrecked but what really angered me was the fact that he was reported for "feeding" and was later even banned for a few days by the tribunal. Needless to say this friend of mine has absolutely zero interest in the game now.

One of my siblings played and got into Silver ranking. He has recently quit because he feels that the negative emotions on league spill over and he doesn't want that to happen anymore. To add to it I just had a friend (who doesn't even know my sibling) express the same sentiments and has left league as well. He also was a silver.

Then there's me. My experiences with this community have also been, shall we say, "less than stellar". The new user experience was not a pleasant one but I stuck it out because the game seemed pretty fun despite the insistence of the community on somehow starting the game with knowledge and experience that no noob is going to have. Still I have learned more and more and seem to be getting better and better over time. One thing that hasn't changed though no matter where I play (regular, ranked, aram, twisted treeline, etc) is there always seems to be someone in the community who complains to high heaven about my build, my style of play, my runes, my masteries or my items. Alternatively there is some jerk on the other team who rages because I killed him or has to chat to all about how awesome he is and how he just wrecked me or my team. I know that the standard response is to mute/ignore them but I think the community is fooling themselves if they think that that really solves the problem. If the jerk is on your team you can mute/ignore him yes but that doesn't stop him from pinging the map like he is having a seizure. Nor does it stop him (or the other team's jerks who I choose to mute/ignore for that matter) from raging in the comments section after the game is over. Let's face it, you can't fully avoid the jerkiness of this community even if you use the mute/ignore button. Once, I even got placed in a subsequent game with a duo of jerks who I had muted in the previous game. (Seriously Riot. I didn't want to have to listen to those punks in one game, you gotta make me play a second one with them) I know that many people will say that I should just remind myself that it is a game and should not only mute/ignore them in game but also mentally but the truth is that human beings aren't fully built that way. If you had to go to a job where every time you ran into a bunch of coworkers who would tell you why they don't like you after a time it would build and get to you. Sure you could maybe go into your office and close the door (the equivalence of mute/ignore) and sure you could just try to mentally remind yourself that you are a nice guy and what they are saying is untrue and doesn't matter (mentally ignoring them) but the truth is that all of the times you run into them outside of your office (clocking in and out, going to the bathroom, corporate functions, etc) would eventually grate on you and would start to bother you.

The straw that broke the camel's back for me came one game when right after getting the jung started the adc went south to try to get a kill on the enemy supp who came up to try to interrupt the leashing process. Our adc chased their supp a little too deep and ended up getting us both killed. (I had followed, albeit grudgingly, as I was the supp and I was trying to protect our adc) Then when we went to lane and I misclicked and ended up getting myself killed again. (Be honest, it happens to everyone sometimes) My adc then responded with "reported". Really, after your bright idea of chasing at 2 mins in I make one mistake and you are going to report me. Something just snapped inside me and I started going off on how I can't stand this community and how that person (our adc) was a prime example of it. Yes I was probably raging a bit and perhaps I shouldn't have gotten on my soapbox but honestly try to see things from my perspective. All the crap that I have caught (even with using the mute/ignore function) blew up inside me and I needed to get it off my chest. I had tried muting/ignoring everyone (my team and theirs) at the start of games and just communicating by pings. I had tried just mentally reminding myself when I get the jerks in game to just ignore them and their comments. I had tried many other things that I don't care to list because my post is already too long. While each had provided some temporary relief the inevitable response built into us humans had finally come up due to all the negativity I had had to experience via the ping spammings, after game chats, etc.

Honestly, I am a nice guy and I would love to play a game where in winning people do it gracefully and both sides have fun and in losing people acknowledge with humility their defeat and again both sides had fun but I seriously don't think league is that game. This community (although not everyone is a jerk but the percentage of the population is actually a lot higher than many may be willing to admit) has led me to that conclusion. I know that each game has its jerks but just about every other game I have played does a much better job of keeping those jerks in check.

Goodbye league. Don't let the door hit you on the way out of my life. And to the community, with the exception of the few that are actually nice, I say good riddance. I won't miss most of you.

Sorry to hear about all that :( Just realize, it's not the game. It's the people... they're everywhere on the internet. Gotta ignore the trolls

Riot really needs to start taking more notice of this kind of complaints about the game. The community in LOL has become very toxic and can't help but feel nothing is being done about it since it's just steadily getting worse. I'm finding myself having to leave the champ select process more than I should because before the game even starts you are having people be toxic already making the game not worth playing. Yet I can't keep doing that because I will be the one getting banned all because I am over putting up with toxic players in matches. When I do put up with it 9 times out of 10 we end up losing because said toxic player is bringing the team down or someone ends up AFKing. Also in regards to this post we see that a player who shouldn't be getting banned get banned which is just wrong. If Riot doesn't do more to stop this stuff eventually people will just stop playing or they will not get any new players.

I couldn't agree more with this! I have been getting more and more frustrated with playing League day by day because of the community. It is even worse when you try to reason with them and explain to them why the way they are acting is uncalled for and unsportsmanlike. 90% of the time the response is them either calling me a noob, a pussy who can't take a little smack talk, or increased vulgarities.

It doesn't help that the entire concept of the Tribunal system is shut down and in the hands of Riot. No offense Riot, but we know that Tribunal type cases aren't exactly your highest priority. With each passing day it gets harder and harder to play because I just can't stand the people in this community that think it is funny that they can get away with acting like this. After so many years it hurts me to actually feel the want to stop playing. Not to mention all the money I've poured into this game in support of the company because I liked what they were doing. Now, I almost feel regret because things have been able to get to this point.

It is just sad that people are like that and can't see past their own arrogance or unsportsmanlike attitude without being able to do anything about it.

I wonder, if League were to encourage the formation of guilds so players would form sub-communities, if that would help? I know they exist already, but if they were advertised more.
