Why update?

I just run in to this post:

http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/player-behavior-moderation/2VI29hKX-omg-i-figured-out-why-we-are-being-banned-for-third-party-programs-genius I doubt his conclusion but still bugs can come from anywhere. But anyways here is a story.

TL;DR: Do not update/upgrade software unless u actually need a specific feature. And read up on what u get with the update.

Updating for no reason was more than enough times a trouble for my machines. I own computers since the year 2000. The first time I made a mistake was going from win 97 to win ME(u remember that piece of garbage ?); I dont know why was this so buggy and restarting my computer(didn't know much at the time) but i had to deal with it on two machines, me and my friends. I had a problem around that time with a sound card too. But i thought I learned, at that time updates over internet ware unheard of, so it was easy to notice that one's machine doesn't misbehave when one does not setup something new that he has no idea what it does. So when win XP came out I made sure that I learn what it offers and if I needed it before I decide to upgrade, turned out it had a great neat little feature among many that i waited for (USB drivers not needed anymore) - turned out to be the best OS I ever had and I still have it on 2 machines ( Those two DO NOT need more to work as intended).

Did the same thing for Vista - but I did not found anything useful that was worth upgrading for. Went straight to glorious win 7. This was the XP's little brother and it is great. My gaming/work machine has an installation that was set up and properly updated(only updates I need) at start ; That was sometime in 2013, summer i think. It is not fully updated since, had a malware trouble only once. Only thing that is updated regularly is the malware database on the Security Essentials.

In the meanwhile I used everything else on my laptops : Ubuntu and Every windows since; I am not scared of transition I like tech, but the machine that is crucial to my work was not updated because simply I do not need an update or a new feature on it, it does everything I need to do with that "old" OS and drivers, I think I **had ** to update the .NET framework for work once or something like that but that it is. And I do all kinds of silly things on it even installing themes like this when I am bored. My machine at work had to be updated to 10 because of some policy, begging had saved me from 8 but 10 had to be set. And I still often think "I did not needed this at all". I don't like it at all, the more I see it work the more I ask myself in annoyance who has right of usage over who I over windows or Microsoft over me. And it has this really odd bug :D ; The wallpaper gets stuck, i have a rotation of hundreds of wallpapers and sometimes it stucks on one for hours, just as soon I go to "personalize" it changes, Its like the OS is going "O yeah I was supposed to changed that sry, my bad!"

And on phones i repeat my mistakes from my childhood, I updated my first Android twice with reading only on the short notes(not that they tell in detail when going from 4.1 till 4.4). Had to flash the damn thing. My wife on the other hand has her Xperia J still working like a charm as a designated camera in thee apartment, never updated unless something like chrome insisted on updating or it wont run.

On the other hand I learned most of the stuff for computers from problems with the computer, if it was not for my troubles with software I was probably not going to be a dev today.

I still have machines that get me in trouble and introduce me with new bugs and conflicts to keep me up at night, but that is their purpose. So if your machine's job is to entertain you with games and internet and it works properly - you don't need any update to keep it operating at the same level.

The reason you had tom update to windows 10 at work is because microsoft is no longer supporting anything else at the moment. So if you want any type of tech support its only going to be offered to windows 10 users.
