I know no community else to ask this,

If I graduated as a game developer what is the possibility of finding a job, how, and how long would it take me, assuming that I would graduate from Multimedia University of Malaysia?

I'm pretty summoner 3 from thinking of this so I thought about asking people here. :)

(tnx for telling me where to post it)[slayer-jinx-wink]

It can take years I'm not going to lie.

The best bet for you is to make sure your getting actual work experience while your in uni so when you do leave and look for a job and your employer asks you "have you got industry experience?" You can say " yes I have ...." And that goes a LONG way.

Make as many contacts as you can milk your uni and milk your tutors for any contacts possible work for as many as possible.

  1. you will have expereince
  2. you will know people to help wedge that door open for a way in to the industry
  3. you will have references from industry workers.

It is as cliche as it sounds in the real work "who you know not what you know" and it's true, you could be crap but know someone in the industry and just get handed a job.

Some "designers" I workw with use the magic wand in Photoshop, that's a big no no as it takes too long for an inferior product to what masks can achieve.

Well, it comes down to where you want to work. Assuming it's in Malaysia, the job demand for game development is below average. However, this is dependent on your skill set, a game developer can branch out into many things. All in all, you will find a job for sure. You need to do a little job hunting. With the gaming community drastically expanding, more and more job offers are available each and everyday.

It's all about who you know really. If you don't know anyone who can help you get started, then begin building a portfolio of small random works like mobile games. Start solo and then go to a company with an actual portfolio to back you up.
