A little career help

Okay so I've been trying to set up a route of education that might lead to riot but, I'm missing what I feel is a huge piece of the puzzle. I want to be a software engineer but, I don't know exactly what that means to riot. What do I have to know really? What helps put my foot in the door for education standards?

It might be a lot to ask but, it would be a pain to be written off by saying "go look at riot's career section", since I've looked and didn't find what I needed, so i'm here now, hoping riot will answer my assist pings (or of course, anyone else who knows about what I need to know.)

I don't want to go through college and learn everything there is to know about Javascript and how to build a toaster when I really need to know, for example, everything on C++ and web design or something. So pleeease i'm hoping I could get some help in this area; I want a solid foundation for what is essential. Anyone with relevant experience in the field getting back to me would be soooo helpful. Thank you so much.

And please, nothing would make this harder than by saying, "Go to our career page."
