New Champ Select and LP System
So today I lost 18 LP from dodges. One was a legitimate dodge because within 2 seconds of entering champ select, someone says "ggwp we lose" and continues to complain. Not a situation I want to be in, so I dodge. -3LP and 5 minute queue timer, no problem.
But wait. 12 hours ago when I was in champ select, I was told that I did not lock in and was forced to dodge when the timer had 3 seconds left. After reading the patch notes, Riot claims they have made the system easier to lock in when there is low time remaining. Instead, I got forced out of a game when I still had over 3 seconds remaining to lock in (I even had my champ already selected).
As a result, me dodging a game that was actually reasonable to dodge cost me -15LP and 30 minutes of being unable to play. Now being down -18LP in one day (basically the LP of a win) because I wasn't given the opportunity to lock in my champion.
What I would like to change:
The jump from -3 to -15 LP is huge, as with the gap from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. I get it, you don't want people dodging relentlessly until they have great teams and have abnormally high win rates because they just leave any game that seems grim. But for the 2nd dodge of a day to cost me the LP of winning a game is absurd.
Next, why even have an LP loss from dodging ranked queues? Why not just up the timer for not playing, dock some IP, or something less permanent? The way the league system is set up puts a lot of weight upon specific numbers. For instance, imagine being at 13-15LP, and then you dodge a game and drop to 0. Now you can be demoted, so this next game is now a relegation instead of just another ranked game. Similarly, it adds an entire extra game to people trying to reach promotion.
On the topic of the LP System, it's important to note that LP gains and losses vary greatly throughout the season. When I reached diamond a couple seasons back, It was through 6 promotion series and a very long experience of receive +0, +1, and +2 LP from any LP over 90 in Plat 1. Imagine dodging a queue and losing 3 or 15 LP when your gains are minimal or nonexistent. The LP losses from a dodge should relate to the amount that the game you dodged would have been worth had it been played.
P.S.
I've been playing for 5 years, and I have to say, I still prefer the ELO system, and I still like the old champ select better. I appreciate the effort to be innovative and unique, but sometimes the mainstream way is the mainstream because it's the best.
