Do you copy the pros?

This week's All Chat episode posed a really good question to the community: do you copy the pros? How do you feel about people who mimic the champion trends, lane swaps, or play styles of pros?

I think the fanbase's love of pro players and streamers is one of the worst part of the game, honestly. They don't bother to think 'why is this thing good, why is this good player using it' and instead just think 'this good player is using this strategy/champion/item, this means that I would be a good player if I use it too!'

And that's how we get madstone Udyr, and why I loathe Udyr pickers.

I never watched the LCS so I never can copy them nor would I want to. I have done Kennen support and when I got in-game people told me I was copying LCS.

I believe there is merit to emulating good habits of good players, but I don't think what good players do should be law, like the large majority of sheeple think.

If everyone only emulates what the top players do, then there will be very little innovation, because the top players usually only do what works. It takes ppl willing to do stuff that might fail, on purpose, in order to know what does and does not work in order to create new strategies and possibly metas.

In short, don't do what top players do just because they are a top player. Know why what they do works so that you may not only do it as well, but find out how to counteract it with a new strat of your own.

Nope, at least not anymore. There was a short while back in the dredges of bronze 5 where I just didn't understand why I couldn't advance that I just started playing whatever the pros did... I then realized I absolutely hated doing that, I was just another person jumping on the bandwagon at that point and that is something I have striven never to be. So that is when I decided to quit trying to do everything and just play the champs I like. So far that has worked for me.

All that said though I do appreciate and enjoy watching the pro and still try to pick up a few tips and tricks from their gameplay. Outside of that though I am my own summoner.

I don't. I see things that might make sense, try it, succeed, que up and get dodged on. It's a sad and misunderstood life. :c

I think the Pros are a Good source of information on What to build, What order to level up your skills, What to Run as far as Runes and Masteries but that's it, Your game wont be the same as theirs, They are fighting different champions so blindly trying to copy them is useless, don't try to copy them, try to think like them and be them, What would they build in your situation, What would they do.

/ALL Chat I would like All Chat to address the rising issue of players who stop trying to win and start throwing the game if they think their team can't win. What can you do about players like this and how to get them back into the game and trying to get that win.

Gotta learn from the best, right? I've learned a lot from watching VoDs and trying to break down what the player is doing and why; basically anytime I try to learn a new champion I check out a couple different probuilds to get a sense of how the champion builds, and look for a VoD of Faker or someone playing them just to get a sense of how the champion functions (combos, powerspikes, lane dynamics, etc), but most of the time I try not to pay too much attention to FotM stuff, unless it's to ban/learn how to play with/against them.

true pros come up with their own shit

but I do watch them to learn something

I only copy the pros in terms of their basic laning mechanics, how they combo the skills of certain champions, and stuff like ward placement.

I never copy the overall strategy, because 2 v 1 lane swaps almost never happen in solo que and they are horrendous to watch in the LCS (THRILL as the top laners are useless for 20 minutes!). Besides, solo que games never have the coordination that pro teams do, so macro-level strategy isn't really worth copying.

I don't watch the LCS, simply because the gameplay difference in divisions is so massive i don't know where to really begin. So instead i watch small streams on twitch of the most skilled in hyper carry champions. And of course people who are good at simply explaining what's going on in this or that situation they're in. Like.. Guides.

[My current interest is in assassins of all kinds, and jungle.]

Just last week i saw something a Khazix main did that blew my whole perspective in his current state of meta. I've adopted a few tricks from one of my favorite streamers and completely reevaluated my jungle tactics and path.

Then suddenly.. I've finally upgraded my overall win rate with a champion that is supposedly the least chosen and won with in this current meta.

I'm proud of my self. And give thanks for all those streamers out there that take the time to evaluate their gameplay experience and share it with their viewers.

P.S.. "Everybody, and i mean EVERYBODY, has their own method of play style. Sometimes copying can be a great idea, and sometimes, it can completely blow up in your face. That doesn't mean quit though, that just means you gotta keep looking' until you're satisfied with what you've found useful in your regard."

It's really sad, they mindlessly follow professionals or popular people and what they do. I can't believe how many times I have to tell my teamates (I'm Bronze) to not ban Sejuani and how she is just useless half the time enemies play her.

Pretty much in my entirety in League, unless I just have absolutely no idea what I am doing on a champion and seek a point of reference, I never look to pros to emulate play. I enjoy finding my own path and iterating on it. Sometimes I get the errant 'ashe build pls' when I have a youmuu/boots 3 for added mobility if we're having a tough game, but so what? League is about playing well not what you build or what you do. Be a leader not a follower.

The condensending nature of this question makes no sense: The whole point of LCS/Pro action (other then to make money+serve as marketing for the game) IS FOR PEOPLE TO "COPY". The LCS action is basically a high level beta process that various playstyles are tested out for their effectiveness by people who can best test them. IT isn't a "bad" thing; nor undesirable, and cannot be avoided if players wish to better themselves.

Nope. I play Viktor. And only Viktor.

Except he's disabled, so I can't play Viktor.

So now I mostly play Urgot, who - for some crazy reason - is a really fun support.

I have my own playstyle, but it is also fun to learn a few tips from streamers/pros. I like to watch NightBlue3 on twitch and he is very educational with his jungle play. While I have my own thoughts on jungling, some of the things that he does are very smart and I have picked them up to help with my jungling. My jungle game has definitely improved.

Keevalroy5/15/2015, 8:42:08 PM1 votes

Started jungling again because of Oddone - picked up his champion pool and playstyle from watching his livestreams. Haven't been unsatisfied by the results yet.

I look at build orders and skill orders but at my level there isn't much in the way of strategy so following that aspect is null and void.
