What Parents Think About League of Legends

Hi guys I'm not a big writer but I felt like I needed to share this with ALL of younger gamers and ever all gamers. First, let me tell you a little bit about myself. I like in beautiful San Diego and I am currently a freshman. I have a dream of becoming a professional League of Legends player, and to be on the LCS stage. The problem with this dream however is sometimes your parents. If your parents are anything like mine, they do not like the idea of video games in the first place, and if your dream is to go pro in a video game they think you're absolutely crazy. You see if you are my age, you are part of a time period where computer technology of all sorts is becoming more popular, and the world is on the verge of becoming paperless. However, if you have parents that lived when Atari came out, you have a problem. My parents, and most likely many other parents out there believe that video games are bad for you. The common cheesy saying is, "they rot your brain." Although my parents are more concerned about my grades. If I don't have good grades, they default to blaming it on video games. They say things like you play too much of you're addicted. And yes, sometimes they are right. BUT, video games of any kind can help you grow in many ways. For example, League of Legends is an extremely team based game which requires very much communication for success. It requires critical thinking skills, reaction time, and instinct. How your parents view video games on the other hand is you staring at a screen all day. Which is actually understandable, because when they were kids, they didn't have these type of things. And when people see something new they fear that it is bad. If you're anything like me you think your parents just don't understand. And you're right, your parents most likely do not understand the concept, and complexity of video games. This is when your negotiation skills come in. You have to convince your parents to play video games during the day. You have to say to your mom, "Mom if I play video games now I'll do all the laundry for the entire family tonight!" Usually that one works for me. Anyway, this is kind of getting off topic, but the main point is that your parents just despise video games. They will do anything to get you off of them. In my case getting off of video games is bad because I need to practice if I want my dream to come true. Of course I don't play all day and all night, but I like to play a solid 4 hours a day. That is a reasonable amount of time to play. But my main problem is, my parents take away my computer for sometimes a week straight. If I can't practice I will get worse and I will never achieve my goal. Yes I am still going to college and pursue a career just in case the professional scene doesn't go too well, but I would really like to right out of college or even during college play in the LCS. If you are as dedicated as I am right after you get out of your parents house you are going to practice much more. That is my plan, and I'm also planning on playing in the collegiate series while I'm in college. Anyway, my point of this entire little writing is to tell all of you to never give up on your dreams. Even if you have parents that hate video games as much as mine do, you need to prove them wrong and go be successful and do what you love. Just remember that anything can be achieved with lots of practice. I wish you all good luck with whatever circumstance you're in. Follow your dreams.

P.S. If you would like to add me on LoL my username is "lockjaw legend." I main ADC and my best champion is Kalista

I doubt they hate video games, but a career in gaming isn't a profitable one unless you are in the top 1%. Think about how many pro teams there are and think how many other kids have the same dream as you, just realistic to think you won't make it thus they would rather you go for something more secure.

Edit: Yeeeeeah, you are bronze 5, you aren't gonna make it, at least not anytime soon, stay and school, get good grades and maintain them, then play while keeping a good GPA.
