Said it before and I'll say it again

LC$BIGPLAY$ is a bad-faith excuse for not understanding why a thing actually is the way it is.

Case in point: Lee Sin. I don't know exactly why he's so strong. In fact, the view from Bronze is that he's a pile of crap. Possible causes for why he remains so strong:

  • It's hard to balance a stat that has no objective value, e.g. mobility.
  • He is extremely skill-based (queue ward-hopping jokes/complaints). I've heard that even in Gold Lee is not a guaranteed win. I've seen maybe three good Ez players in my life, but he hovers at ~15% pickrate in Master+ 5v5 Ranked and seems to be a solid pick in the LCS. It's hard to balance a champ so that someone in Bronze, or at least Silver, can play them, while not making them completely broken at higher levels of play.
  • He has a lot of stats. Again, the problem here is that half of that is rewards for correctly executing his high cap skills.

But this isn't a Lee Sin thread. This is about LC$BIGPLAY$. Which I believe is BS. Discuss.

So long as Riot thinks flashy play making is what's best for the competitive aspect of League it will be here to stay. What we need is for an LCS team to win a game with a full team of champions who are not considered play makers, yet still make plays, and have it be such a crushing victory that it sticks with the community for a long time. This is about the only thing I can think of that would change the "big plays" thought process.
