It's Riots "Challenge" to see if you are worthy. :P
The system is really stupid.
you have to win 2/3 or 3/5. That is steep in itself.
Not just are you placed against opponents who are about a tier higher than yourself, you also get players on your team who are likely to troll, rage, feed, afk and most of the time are way below your current tier!
Whomever wrote the matchmaking algorithm that kicks into play when someone advances to promos is an evil genius who reserved himself a special place in hell.
The thing that really bothers me about this system (other than promos being statistically unfair) is the disparity of visible rank vs MMR. Silver III should never be playing with Gold I in well-done matchmaking, that's an entire tier and a half apart. It'd be like a Platinum II promotional game having Master tier players in it.
Why bother showing us our ranks if they don't actually mean anything in relation to our skill level? According to that game, you can be one of 8 Divisions and still have similar MMR. That makes no sense.
Your MMR is just your Win/Loss ration plugged into a formula. Your Rank is the pattern that those Wins/Losses were achieved. If you continue to win more than lose, your Rank will rise to match (+/- 2 divisions).
The Promos are a bit more vulnerable to random luck, but they are not unfair. Because you have to prove your Rank by winning a promo series, the system can allow you to lose 3-5 games after a Promo, in case you get a string of bad luck.
an even bigger gripe is that you have to win the match before to put yourself into the promo matches, making it really a 3/4 or 4/6. old system was better even if it upset the younger population with a "number"
