How League's WAD files ruined my enjoyment of the game
I highly doubt I'll ever get an answer to this question, but here goes nothing (and please don't kill me if I did something wrong, this is my first post here).
I've been playing League of Legends for almost 4 years now (if I recall correctly), and, about a year and a half or so ago, I started getting somewhat bored of the same old visuals, so I got into cosmetic modding (custom skins). An integral part of this was editing BIN files, which allowed more flexibility in terms of character models. Quite a few months ago, WAD files were introduced, which, to my understanding, basically squashed these files together. It was possible to edit these files for a while, but ever since "version 2" was introduced, the files are signed using ECDSA (or something similar) which prevents modification. Fortunately, for a bit, it was still possible to add BIN files and the game loaded them normally, but this behaviour was recently removed.
My question is: what is the reasoning behind this decision? Is it simply to prevent this kind of modding? If so, what harm did modifying these files cause? As of what I know, they only contain model and sound info, so there is not way to cheat by modifying them. I used to have a lot of dumb fun with these files, for example:

Unfortunately, now I'm forced to go back to the "standard", less interesting League of Legends, which has made me lose basically all interest in the game. I really hope this isn't the beginning of a game-wide encryption of files, because that would ruin the huge community built around custom skins. And you can't deny that seeing the new Galio as an actual enormous colossus in game would be awesome, can you?
