Best Laptop for League AND college?

So I'm going to college next year, and my parents have agreed to buy me a new laptop this Christmas. My problem is that I have NO idea which brand to get. There are just so many, I have no clue where to start, so I was thinking that if anyone on here has some ideas they could help me with this?

I would like this laptop to be no more than $1000, and it needs to be able to play League at normal settings with no lag and good performance. I would also like it to have decent battery life and whatever else is needed for college.

For specs, I would like it to be about the following:

CPU (Speed): 2-3 Ghz RAM: 1-2 GB Hard Disk Space: 8-12 GB Free Space DirextX: DirectX 9 or More OS: Windows Video Card: Geforce 8800

I use a mac which does both for me quite well. But I understand if you need programs for your major or want to play steam games

Looks to me like your 'requirements' are several years old. At this point, you probably shouldn't bother to buy anything under 8GB of RAM. And the GeForce 8800 is several generations old at this point. Also, you do ask for a few unrealistic things here. For one, a different machine won't do anything for you in terms of lag, unless you mean low framerates when you say 'lag'. Also, you generally have to choose between gaming performance and battery life. High-performance gaming components will demand more power to operate. So don't expect to see something with a 6+ hour battery life in a gaming machine.

The budget is also a bit limiting, but some options do still exist for you. They're not going to be super high-end, but they should work for what you need. Looking through the offerings that Newegg has in your price range, I would probably pick this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317890 It looks to be a good balance of performance and portability, to me. A lot of gaming laptops are actually built with an assumption that you're not really going to carry it around on a daily basis, so they're pretty bulky and can weight 8lbs or more. Also, stepping up to a better video card than the 860M in that one would break your budget by a couple hundred dollars.
