League of Legends All About Winning?
"League of Legends is a game" "League of Legends is meant to be fun" We've all heard things like these in chat at one time or another. Normally on the other end of this chat is some raging player. I do agree that games can be fun even competitive games can be fun. While upfront RIOT will claim that the game is fun and not all about winning behind the scenes they do certain things to reinforce the contrary. Now before you all start to hate and dislike this read below, this is not a hate on RIOT but merely a critique and maybe will open peoples eyes as to why this game gets players crazy sometimes. Here is how RIOT reinforces that winning is very important in league: (Some of these may be simple ideas however they will add up)
- First WIN of the Day: Yes, this is accomplished in bots but does lay the foundation for winning being important) -Victory vs. Defeat Screens: There are no screens stating "You had the most fun" or "Your team had great synergy" while I know this is unrealistic is does apply. -IP Rewards: You get more IP if you win the game versus losing regardless of how the teams preform. -Champion Mastery Points: If two players receive the same rating i.e. S, the player on the winning team will get more champion mastery points because they won. (I know the argument can be made "If you don't win have you really mastered the champ" can be used here but ask any LCS pro after they have lost with their pocket pick champ) -Ranked: You have to win to get LP (I know you have to have a way to separate the divisions but isn't that what those best of 3 and best of 5 matches are for?) These are some interesting facts that I found that kind of show how RIOT could be creating these over competitive players (ragers) by their own game design. Feel free to add in your own opinion I was to know what everyone thinks about this.
