Can I Get Upset At Players For Criticizing Riot?

I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I felt like posting to see if someone could help me come to a conclusion. I have seen a variety of Twitch and YouTube personalities criticizing Riot, questioning their decisions, and altogether acting like they know what is better for the game than Riot themselves. This has been upsetting me, and making me conclude that these people are simply ungrateful for the fantastic game that they are allowed to play for free. My question is, do I have any business feeling this way, or am I simply being arrogant by thinking I can get angry at people on Riot's behalf?

IMO it depends on the situation. If someone is criticizing by making a well thought out post about why they dont like something with maybe some ways it could be improved ect then its fine. However I hate when people do things like make a thread once a week saying "I hate X /thread".

If they upset you then don't watch them. They aren't worth your stress. This is intended to be a fun game.

If people can't follow their explanation or if their reasoning contradictios their actions then they appear like they don't know what they are doing.

If someone comes to that conclusion then yes I think it is totally legitimate to question them, ask for clarification and offer alternative options.

Being gratefull and respectfull is one thing, but you shouldn't blindly follow someone just because they did great before or achieved a certain position.

They may have earned it, but you have to question do they still deserve it? But even if you come to the conclusion: "yes they do", keep in mind no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes.

If no one speaks up those mistakes can never be noticed nor dealt with.

PS: note how I never meantion Riot specifically, this is a general statement that I think applies to every person of status

You really don't have any business feeling this way.

Criticism is not a bad thing and one of the most important things of all to understand is that no one should ever feel "grateful" to a company. Riot, I'm sure has good people on staff; like Katey seems like a nice person and there are people there who you would enjoy spending time with. I'm sure of that. But, the company, Riot Games does not know you. Riot games is not your friend.

You like this game, you think it's fantastic. A company has put a good product out there that you like. Good. But you are putting your time and money, your life into getting the product. A good product isn't something to be grateful for, it's what you should expect.

People who get mad and argue with people who say something negative about their favorite product are in the wrong; it's anti-consumer and hurts us. Business don't put out products as a favor to you, so don't you be "grateful" to them for that.

Well I've reached a conclusion. Normally, a player pays money for a game, and then the Company is expected to provide an enjoyable experience in return for that money. But since League is free, Riot doesn't owe, in any contractual sense, anything to the players, and the players, who haven't payed for an enjoyable experience, shouldn't expect to receive one. However, despite this, Riot has put in extensive time and energy into not only improving the base game, but by actually increasing the quantity of content. They even actually listen to the community, which is more than I can say for many other companies who actually require payment for their services. As such, since Riot is putting in so much time, energy, and care into producing a quality product with no guarantee of recompense, I can regard them as nothing short of a charity. And anyone who insults, degrades, or otherwise disrespects a charity, especially people who directly benefit from said charity, deserve nothing but disdain, for only a selfish, arrogant, foolish person dares to look a gift horse in the mouth. This is my conclusion. My thanks to those who contributed answers to my questions, you are appreciated. I will not likely be returning to this post, as I've gotten everything I wanted from it. Have a nice day, good luck, and have fun.

Oh yes, I love this broken game full of trolls and bugs. It's really quite fantastic. Thanks Rito.

If they have legitimate reasons for criticizing then no... you shouldn't get upset.

If people are just bandwagoning or criticizing for no reason... then go ahead.

But you're just making your life less fun by doing so.
