New Bronzie Support, Looking to Improve

So I started playing Ranked a few days ago, even though I wanted to stay in Normals because I thought, "Might as well get some experience before I go into Ranked." I played a placement game, then lost with a champion that I thought I was quite decent with (Braum) and I was laning with people who were obviously way more experienced than me. Needless to say, they ripped me a new asshole and it became clear to me I know nothing about this game and could never really grow by just playing Normals. So I thought, "Well, I guess I should play an easier Champion" and I did, my next game went relatively well with Soraka and so I continued to play her throughout my placement games and went into Bronze I.

The point that I am trying to make here is that I suck at League of Legends and I want to improve, so I dedicated a lot of my time to reading up on things like lane positioning, warding, teamfighting, map awareness etc. I haven't had any time to practice these skills yet in-game, but when I do I will. A I found some useful threads for improvement, I was just wondering if anyone had some info for me as a new player in Ranked, maybe share some of your experience. (of course everyone has their own way of climbing and getting better, I would just like to see your perspectives and insights on how the game should be played.)

Also, I am probably going to main Thresh as soon as I get the chance to learn him inside-out, so if you have any knowledge of him as well then you can share. My biggest problem is teamfighting and positioning, to be honest.

Your role as support generally is to peel for your adc in team fights. IF you find your adc is doing fine and doesn't need peel then feel free to join in on the fight and making sure that your team can secure kills or an escape.

The biggest problem with Thresh is that in really low ranks, they won't click your lantern even if it saves them, and every single time it happens what will go through your head... it will make you feel like you should have played a different champion like Soraka since that would save them too but they don't need to do anything, since you do the work, so you can save someone who doesn't know how a Thresh lantern works.

The best way to poke in lane with any champion is to time it to when the ADC goes for a minion. If your poke skill is up, wait for when a minion is low, then go in for the poke at the same time as when you think the ADC is about to try to go for the CS. They almost always actually go for the CS. Free poking.

One of my favorite things to do is preventing the enemy ADC from getting last hits. I do this by watching my own minions and harassing right at the moment when they want to last hit that minion. They will be devoting their attention to the minion and not me and I get a free hit in on them.

Throwing a ward into the raptor/chicken pit is a brilliant strategy called "messing with the enemy jungler" because when the enemy jungler goes to smite the chickens he will immediately use the buff to find the ward I placed in his raptor pit and it will protect my team's more important wards that are in river. It will also dissuade him from invading my team's jungle as he will not know whether the jungle is warded or not now. Or if I warded his red buff because I did :)

Generally I roam after my jungler or mid laner ganks bot lane. I stick with them for a bit. Or if I know the enemy jungler is top side or dead, I have vision of the mid laner and the enemy bot lane is either dead or subdued. Not all of these factors need to be in place but most of them means you can do this relatively safely. It's aggressive warding and is usually a "reward" for my jungler making a good gank. I also drop a ward in dragon pit if it is up or is going to be back up in 2 minutes or less.

Sometimes when I am feeling bold I will walk from fountain, cross the river and plop the ward not in the raptor pit but not directly in it like I normally would. I would place it right at the edge of the opening between raptors and the back wall of red buff. Doing this is a roll of the dice. You need to watch the mid laner when you do this and if they move in your direction you back off. But in a stalemate situation you just want to play it safe.
