A tip of my hat to Riot for all the things that they have done for us.
I know that as a fan-base collectively we tend to only focus on the negatives about League of Legends and really bash Riot a lot. I just wanted to make a little list of things both recent and semi recent that Riot has gotten right. (I started Lol in season 4 so that might help you understand where I'm coming from).
1.) Summoner Rift update - It needed it and the new style and minions bring it up to par.
2.) Rotating game-modes - Not all gamemodes that we want are included but it's still fun to not have to wait a whole year for URF to come back
3.) Hextech crafting - A lot of people whine about how "complex" the crafting system is (I came from TF2 and trust me, this shi*t is basic math compared to TF2) and how they are getting stuck with crap that they don't want/like, but in the end FREE STUFF IS FREE STUFF. And I'm glad that Riot decided to do this and the system used is not that difficult to understand.
4.) Mastery system - People had been asking for a way to express their skill with a champion in a way other than skins and Mastery system does exactly that. First people were complaining that reaching level 5 mastery was too easy and doesn't represent your skill with the character, and now they are complaining that reaching level 7 mastery is too hard. Either way, I am a level 7 Warden with Thresh and I am now working on Leona or perhaps Braum and I love the new system. You can't just play games over and over to collect points, you have to do good in those games and do good consistently.
5.) Mid Year Mage/Juggernaut/Marxmen Updates - I know that not all of you are happy with the updates, especially those that play Morde or Skarner, but I think that these updates really hit their marks in general. Riot's goal of "making every champion feel unique and bringing their own impact to the game" is exactly what a game consisting of over 100 champions but only 5 roles needs and I think that they are doing great work (in general). Graves's unique auto attack system is exactly what a shotgun toting manly man needs, Garen now actually brings justice to those that deserve it, Fiddlesticks added passive looked silly on paper but it works perfectly with his kit.
6.) Mage item update (kinda part of above but I felt it deserved its own point) - Opening up build paths for mages while still ensuring that they can get that precious 45% CDR was wonderful as well as the idea of giving MAGES flat mana but SUPPORTS get mana sustain. I like it a lot and I love using the new items in my support builds.
7.) New Dragons - While adding random dragon spawns in a game where you are trying to reduce the RNG factor is...well...weird. But I still have to admit that the new dragons look amazing and the different buffs they give are pretty cool. I just wish that there were some order to their spawns (i've had 4 fire drakes in a row once in game).
8.) Dynamic Queue - While there is still a lot of debate/hate going on about DQ on the forums I still think that Dynamic Queue is a great system that does what it needs to do just fine. The only problem with it is that there are not enough supports out there, but that's not exactly Riot's fault now is it? Now when I queue up for rank, instead of having to be ok with 3 roles and still risking not being able to get any of them I can focus on two roles and be guaranteed at least one of them
9.) New Champion releases - It's a little annoying to hear people talk about how powerful the new champ is in PBE only for them to release with the effectiveness of a wet fart but it is a lot better to have the thought of "well this new champion is in a really bad spot right now, I probably won't use him until he is buffed" than the though "HOLY CRAP THIS GUY IS BROKEN! Either ban him for first pick him cause if he makes it to the enemy team we are f*&cked"
10.) New Shop - Not much to say here. Just looks much cleaner, cooler, and stylistic while also looking professional.
11.) Warding items update - At first I didn't like the new warding items (
) cause I thought that it didn't really solve the AP support's problem of "I have to build an item for warding that gives me no useful stats" but I've really warmed up to them and think that they are really nice. Changing the trinket system was cool too.
Anything else?
