How to play yi in 6.9

i put this on the pbe boards because people where saying yi is weak with the new item so this is pretty much a copy and paste from here on out to help people who actually main yi when patch 6.9 comes out. really long post btw. GL hi. plat 2 yi main account: http://euw.op.gg/summoner/userName=one+crit+man forgive my low amount of games played i have drasticaly decreased it from when i was playing 2000+ a season. i have had many accounts and my spike is diamond 1 in season 3 (when the was no masters so class that as like low masters now), however I can be somewhat not nice at times leading to 2 account bans. 1 in season 1 and in season 4. you can search the ID but they show nothing. TotallyNotAGirl and A Luo

at first i though the same thing but the play style and build has just changed a bit. yi is overall the same effectiveness and his damage is higher because he will gain more bonus ad from this build path for his e to proc more.

Before as yi you would get sated afk farm. sadly this is dead.

however do not worry as if you go the new way to do things.

i will say current to represent soon to be dead yi and new to represent the one coming next patch.

With old Yi you could go for . you would go for this smite as you where under no pressure to achieve and the dueling power this smite gave made it the safest choice for defending your jungle as you farmed it due to you having enough general sticking power to not need slow smite.

However with this lack of sated stacks the is no valid reason to afk farm so you will be under pressure to work now.

therefore go: and smite is pretty derp for a jungler but exhaust is basicaly a hyper buffed and combined allowing you to defend your jungle with the dueling power since it is greater then the dueling power offered off of and allow you to make ganks more effective due to the slow being stronger then .

For items you will generally want to start with just a and start blue side and get your heal at level 2. yi can solo farm the jungle easy for his first clear if hes got the mana for w meaning he does not need to waste gold on potions.

Do a full clear including crabs and continue to buy a . The reason you buy over is to allow for stronger ganks. the reason you went before is because you where afk jungle it was common for a laner to get out of hand. however with you could out duel them because of the damage reduction and yi being strong in this area however this is no longer needed since we have exhaust and are trying to have an impact early now.

Continue to farm till you hit 6 which shouldn't be hard with the xp buff.

Now you will have to start having an impact and start playing simlar to a . i.e. Q:you got slow smite? A:yes. Q:you got ult? A:yes. Result: go gank a lane.

yi will have an overall simlar build path as he had before and will still be fixed to 2 damage items. Last time it was sated and blade of the ruined king (unless you went rageblade then ill be honest i dont think you past maths class or watch any korean streams at all since it was extremely ineffective on yi compaired to bork). However for new yi it will be rageblade i hate this item but hey most effective tactic available = wins and blade of the ruined king.

So you have your 2 damage items. Now you Want 2 Magic resist items. 95% of the time (even more once mage rework) your go boots and this will be one of them since the tancity is a hard state to get and it is more effective on yi then anyone expect irelia. Here is what pros/high elo players mean when it comes to "my playstyle" as in they will decide which of the following items they prefer when the is no clear better choice. .

only acceptation to what i just said is witz end. Only go witz end if they are pure ap but have some magic damage like corkie or garen ect. However unless your a really good yi i recommend staying away from the offensive items (id class a good yi as someone with a 3.5 + kda and a 65%+ winrate.

For the next item you will need a armor item. Choices are:

and you will also want a half damage half health item cough juggernaut item cough

will help you most if they have alot of cc (but only if your good at using q) pretty much the (we are even i need damage to get that lead or we lose) choice otherwise its overkill and your losing valuable other stats. If neither of the above go for its extremely cost effective and will pretty much replace your when you sell it.

As for building rules.

You will always want to get your first since it gives sustain in jungle, cc for ganks, and bonus xp and gold... so yeah get this first!. After that your generally want to get your and . Right here is where you should pick up one of your 3 remaining defensive items. how to pick one? whos ahead? they ap? buy the mr one. they ad? buy the armor one. No ones really ahead? go for the juggernaut item. your generally want to get your rageblade after that defensive item.

from here on out it should be pretty simple to end the build but remember dont sell stalkers till you can buy a whole 6th item to replace it, no acceptations.

I hope I helped you with our favorite 1 v 5 master assassin yi if you got a question please ask but please dont let it be a maths question i spent about 6 hours on math already on my labtop in excel >.> but it died without saving v.v but i remember this. bloodrazor to match the sated on hit average damage the enemy needs 3000hp. but then account for the fact that tanks generally have alot more armor then mr and this means that even if it matches with resistances to get the real split even the enemy needs even more hp due to the damage going from magical to ad.
