@Riot: So what exactly is the point of playing ranked?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE886VcYuYE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuyqJ8Qkn0s Even at the diamond level this is a problem: the mindset of ranked. There is currently no difference between normals and ranked except that ranked is just normals with a score attached. People don't try in games, people leave, people troll, whatever. How is that a competitive environment? It's not acceptable. There's a reason the whole game is paused if there are technical issues at a tournament or the LCS. As Elementz puts it, "isn't ranked supposed to be the start of competitive league?" It's so far from being a competitive try-hard environment. So seriously, what is the point of playing in ranked?

CS:GO has an actual competitive scene, due in large part to a strict no tolerance policy for "goofy" behavior. Spawn kill? Automatically kicked out of the game. Too much damage to teammates? Kicked out of the game. If you leave the game for any reason, whether it be getting kicked, voted off, internet troubles, ragequitting, whatever, you're banned from competitive matchmaking. Straight from the FAQ for CS:GO, "A matchmaking ban will be issued regardless of whether or not an infraction was intentional." It starts at a half hour ban, then 2 hours, then 24 hours, then 7 days. These aren't "you can't play CS for this time period" bans, these only prevent a player from entering into competitive. The end result? Competitive is actually the try-hard mode. People who want to goof off and not try their best, they eventually get filtered out of the system, so the only people who are left are those sportsmanlike players.

Because at times real life does happen? This system seems a bit harsh.

That's true, but judging that rage and whatnot is a much harder thing to have a system automatically take care of. These criteria may not be the best thing for League, but my point is that we absolutely have to separate normals from ranked. There is currently zero reason to play one over the other right now

Well your options are casual or casual with a score. There is no competitive solo mode in League right now. That's the main point I was trying to make with this post.
