Read this if you want the truth of what is happening to League of Legends.

Hello Riot Games and summoners. My name is Wrath. I've been a Riot Game consumer and customer since 2008. That is irrelevant to the points that I am about to bring up.

First of all, when I first started playing League of Legends, it was probably about 2 months after I stopped playing WoW. The communities are the biggest difference between these two games. Now don't forget LoL has 27 million players...so that must be the standing difference?

Wrong. The difference is that Blizzard took time to develop an intricate customer support system. If people have experienced any sort of bigotry or offensiveness, it is up to Blizzard's customer support system to help solve the issue. While they do issue suspensions and bans, it is up to this person to look into the issue and decide 'who is at fault'. LoL has a similar 'employee' who has this role. Except, there is a difference. This employee abides by the summoner code, which states that ANY PERSON to create a 'toxic remark' will be reprimanded by Riot Games. I like this a lot. It is championing the cause of "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" which is truly great.

But let me assure you that this is not the way that Riot Games ACTUALLY runs their customer support system.

My online gaming avatar is simply experimentation for me, as I am a journalist who studies cultural behavior. My job is to understand people in order to create an image of them. If I were to characterize the 'average League of Legends player, it would be a lost 15 year old with a bad relationship with his parents. Because of this bad relationship he spends his time logging into an online world and demeaning others in order to feel better about his own problems. I firmly believe that this community and this GAME has turned into a cess pool to breed mean, illogical, naive, and misinformed bullies. The summoner's code itself harbors a communistic resentment which plays off of the idea that democracy, and law, are below the norms of the elite (Riot Games).

While Rioters have turned into Oligarchs, summoners have turned into confused, isolated, hurtful, HURT, children. This is going to ruin your game. It has already taken the fun out of Bronze, Silver, and Gold 4-5 ranked leagues. While your media and rate of international events increase, and online games themselves grow within the public sphere you will find that you will slowly lose viewers. Your players will soon realize that what I am saying is completely true.

I wish that Riot Games would take a look into their Summoners Code, and hire better social workers to determine the core causes of toxic environments inside of online games. The true problem isn't the argument. It is the the way that people on either team, and the Rioter's in judgement, champion the cause of the one who has said the least but still dealt the biggest blow. I have now read that four people, in the real world, have died due to the environment that Riot Games has created.

Back in grade school there was this kid, let's call him Alex. Alex used to go around and sexually harass all of the girls in my 5th grade class. Not the way that you are thinking it, but he would say and do creepy things especially for our age. One day I witnessed what Alex was doing, and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him onto the concrete. I kicked Alex until he started to cry. I feel no remorse for what I did, just as I feel no remorse for the things that I have said to people on this game in which they need to hear. And no, I was not banned for saying things like "tie the noose up" or whatever. THOSE are the things that people get away with. THOSE are the things that Riot Games looks past. Yet, when I say things like "COME ON IN THE WATERS WARM", in a joking manner to my lane opponent in all-chat, it is regarded as intimidation with no mention of humor or socializing. See that's the thing that the 'new' Riot Games has done to combat the recent problems of toxicity. They plan to take socializing out of the game. (Hearthstone) Yet they are failing miserably at it. They are trying to police an unrestrict-able environment, and in the process they are impacting and destroying real lives, real relationships, and real social skills.

I can't tell you the amount of times I have come across a young person on LoL who believes that every social interaction is an insult. This just makes me sad as a human, as a person living in the same world as the rest of you.

No I am not going to create a group of sympathizers in order to tear down the walls of injustice that Riot Games has produces, or write about the terrible realities of Riot Games or online gaming in my journalistic endeavors.

I don't need to. Whether it is Tencent or not, Riot Games is being run into the ground as we speak. And we all know it, and we all know why. It starts with a small crack, which will eventually bring the whole building down. The crack was created when Riot Games implemented the leaver buster and (report buster) systems. Every match ends with "reporting blah blah blah" or "don't forget to report ____"

I hope that you enjoyed your 5 years of fame. It is over. Thank you for the ban, you have lost a player who takes pride in helping others and standing up for the little guy. Whether it is my avatar, or a fellow summoner who I have come across, I will never stand up to bullying, whether it is from structural violence or hateful resentment towards other people.

Thank you for reading what I had to say.

This just made you sound dumb.

But you're right in the fact that people play this game are far too pansy with language. Get a kill and say, "rekt" and everyone loses their shit.

No, being an adult should make you realize that you have to play by Riot's rules. They made the game. In game, it's not a democracy. They aren't entirely unfair. I've defended people getting shit talked to, without being a violent toxic person as well. You shouldn't have gotten banned for saying stuff like, "Lay off him dude, it's just a game." But when you start saying "Fuck you man, that isn't nice go fuck yourself" (as an example) You're becoming that player.

The fact that you're calling my remarks toxic because I'm trying to explain what happened here, makes me think that you are a toxic player yourself. You're one of those players that thinks he is always right and criticism doesn't apply to him. Everything I've said applies to what you've said, as everything I've said is based off of something you've said.

Just by the way you're carrying yourself on this board makes me feel as if you are a toxic player. And you know what? I used to be that toxic player way back in season 2. So I know this shit. I used to think the same way as you, until I got banned as well. You know what I did? I fixed my behavior.

So I pretty much disagree with everything you said, but regardless I am impressed that someone finally decided to complain about their ban with proper grammar, punctuation, and words of more than 2 syllables.

At least it is a refreshing change from "0mg rito so unfair i just told the guy too kill himeslef unnban me plZ rito."

It's unfortunate that you had to go through the experiences that you have. While I agree that Riot could try to implement new systems and hire more people to deal with the social aspects of the game, they only have so much power over who DOES play the game.

You see they are a business, and they happen to be a business that appeals to gamers. Now, the stereotype may be what you mentioned, but that itself isn't Riots doing. It APPEALS to the young male genre, simply because they enjoy to play games; and Riot provides a game that they enjoy. They created a product for others to enjoy and can make money off of through incentives (aka skins, IP boots, and Merchandise for the game). The point i'm trying to make? Riot has NO control over who decides to play this game. In fact, they have the systems they have in place now to TRY and have some control; to sift out the toxic players if you will. Others that happen to get away with being toxic are just unfortunate cases that they CANNOT control, because they more than likely haven't been reported yet. If it's any consolation, they are working on revamping their systems to make catching players that contribute negative energy easier to kick off.

For the rest of my response, i'll introduce myself a little. I'm a stay-at home wife (at the moment, looking for a job after the holidays), who heavily enjoys this game (so much that I wish to become a professional player someday). I have a passion for this game due to it's competitive nature, the champions themselves, and the many friends that I've created through this game (some of which I cannot wait to meet face to face one day). Some of the friends that I have made have helped me out with personal issues that I didn't have the support for at the time (I suffer from anxiety, and some of my friends talked me through the anxiety while my husband was away at the time). I've had a positive experience with these friendships, and it's all thanks to the community that I became a part of.

From what i'm understanding, you had the misfortune of not having that support system. A lot of this game is very social, so not having the positive interactions can indeed ruin the fun of the game for yourself. I consider myself very lucky to have met the friends that I have, which has given me an overall fantastic experience.

Final thought, why would you blame Riot for 'supporting' emotionally abused teenagers? To re-iterate, that's not their goal. They cannot CONTROL people, so they can only do so much about toxic players. You'll find that one sore loser for any game that you play, online or otherwise. If you no longer wish to play League of Legends, then that's OKAY. I hope (with sincerity) that you do find a game that you truly enjoy.

Best of luck!

As a married, 31-year-old legal professional, I thank you for making me laugh. I especially enjoyed the part where you blame Communism for the policies of a private corporation making profits in a capitalist economy. I assume it's obvious enough, but the funny part is that you think capitalist democracy is the opposite of oligarchy, not a path to oligarchy. You live in North America, so you should know better.

If you're such a rugged, self-governing individualist, why do you care what happens to other people in an online environment? How will anyone learn to stand on their own two feet in this shark tank of a world if they can't handle their own shit? /s It's almost like you care about other people, which is rather communitarian, which is basically Communist. Based on your stories, you're fine with Big Brother so long as you can be Big Brother. You like the rule of law when you get to apply it but not when you're restrained by it.

Yeah, people online can be dicks. It gets to me sometimes, too. When it does, I do the capitalist thing and remember that "pwning noobs" isn't what pays for the M Coupe in my garage. And then I report them because I'm not a self-aggrandizing vigilante with a digital god complex.

I agree to this.
