When a guy acts like 2 matches with a champ makes him a master...
As you can guess by my username, I couldn't wait to play
. Prior to today, I'd only played him in customs in PBE, since I knew he'd be too hot a commodity to play otherwise. In my third match, I went top against a
and the enemy mid was another
facing a
. I was 4/0 vs. Jax during laning, and out-performing the other Ekko. Except once laning was over, I failed horribly, finishing 9/8/7, while the enemy Ekko went 19/9/12. It was only my third match with him against live opponents, and our entire team was a bit of a mess, so it happens.
But after the match the other Ekko started talking like he knew all there was to know about Ekko. First he said "that's not how you build Ekko." When you're building him in the mold of a fighter, his secondary role according to Riot, it is. My build wasn't perfect, but running more or less straight AP like he did would've been ill-advised top against a Jax.
Next he was saying Ekko can't top, mainly because he's an assassin. First of all, you can take virtually anyone top if you build them accordingly, have a favorable matchup, have a team comp that suits them, or any combination of those 3. For instance, the most oppressive lane matchup I've ever had as
(my main) in ranked was
. It was only through roaming that I was able to do anything at all, and it just wasn't enough. Second of all, with all his CC and mobility, he can work anywhere from top to jungle to mid to possibly even support. His kit is basically loaded with everything Riot could think of to include.
However, I guess the others trying him top, and building him tankier when doing so (including the Platinum II who wrote the top rated top lane guide over on Lolking), just can't argue with the vast knowledge of a 2 time Ekko (11/14/6 L, 19/9/12 W). Best Ekko NA... clearly.
