Isn't the point of a gank in the first place to either help said losing lane, or to get said lane ahead?

That would be a fail JG in my book >.>

The problem with that attitude is, you allow the enemy jungler to decide the fate of your lanes with just 1 or 2 ganks in early game.

And those junglers exist, who refuse to gank, while the enemy jungler does gank and then they take that as justification to keep refusing help.

Very often just 1 gank could allow your lane to stay in the game and stop the enemy from snowballing.

Are junglers really that unambitious? I mean cmon, as jungler you should care for your lanes.

As a jungler i can confirm i usually avoid ganking losing lanes.

What you have to understand is a jungler versus a laner (or two if it's bot lane) will almost always be weaker. Jungle camps give less overall gold and experience than lane creeps, and as a jungler you're usually going to have a hard time fighting a laner 1v1. This is a trade off for having a ton of space to move around the map and affect lanes and fight in 2v1 situations.

If you lose to your lane opponent 1v1, and your jungler ganks to try to help he's likely going to have to put in most of the work so that you don't die in the 2v1. This is especially bad if the enemy jungler shows up to counter gank, as in the 2v2 you will be way too weak and your jungle will have to 2v1. Even more importantly, even if I do gank a losing lane if you get the kill it's very likely you'll just lose lane again. You started the game on equal footing and lost 1v1 to fall behind. If i gank you and put you on even footing with your opponent, you'll probably just lose the 1v1 again and my gank was wasted.

Ultimately it's very situational though. If i'm playing jarvan or shyvana, and the losing laner is a shen or a maokai, i'd definitely gank a losing lane because i know i can kill a laner if he's like 75% health and i have maokai's bullshit cc on my side. Also i tend to gank assassins when they are behind, because assassins are completely useless if they fall behind in gold.

uhh is this too serious a post? MEMES

If anyone's asking, that pic is from the anime called Haibane Renmei, or Charcoal Feather Federation. It's a surrealist anime, if you're interested.

I would phrase it as:

"I only gank lanes that I believe we can gain an advantage in." That's the mindset behind it.

A lot of people use it as a cop-out so they don't have to gank a lane where they would have to do 80% of the work.
