I actually really like the design.
It looks like a cross between LotR's Gondor, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and Korra's Zaofu.
IIRC, supposed to be ancient, yet somehow modern, achieves that.
The amount of water and land over such a wide space with a centerpiece is also pretty Mezoamerican. Love the pit right below the obelisk.
