WHAT IS THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

So, basically, /i've been hearing all those things about championships and stuf! I know the basics, like: one team kills another. What I need is the information why how where and when does it happen! How OFTEN? WHAT IS THE PRICE for the winner? what are the teams and what are the leagues! So, the only thing I know is that they pick schampions and fight until victory! That is the only thing I know and I really want more information... thnx a lot
