Because akali isnt all that great? Her W is nice, but the entire reason her W is that good is because she literally needs it to function; all of her damage is so backloaded that she has no burst to speak of unless she lands a highly telegraphed, short range skillshot that is blocked by anything, including her own shroud.
She is fun and has her own ups, but anyone with skill comparable to the pros can easily work around her W. All you literally need to do is just walk away, and she cant stop you.
Umm, these are professionals we are talking about, people who get paid to play this game. They work as a team. The situations in which Akali can use her smoke screen in the middle of fights is what makes her strong. There is no such thing as just "walking out", the enemy player will be dead long before they even have a chance to redeem themselves from their mistake.
then wouldn't zed be picked when akali is banned?
No because professional players don't usually go for middle lane carries as their primary win condition. The most commonly used strategy is to play around Bottom lane, and super buff your bottom carry. Middle lane, and even Top lane, are almost always catered to what will work to benefit the duo in the bottom lane.
Zed is a champion who doesn't benefit any marksman or support, so there isn't any team who is likely to consider him a valueable pick even if he was the most busted champion in all of League of Legends.
Something being strong doesn't guarantee that you are going to win. Even if Zed could kill the Bot lane Markmsan with 1 auto attack, if he can never reach that Marksman then it doesn't matter. This is why entire team comps in professional play are built around protecting the carry, in order to prevent strong picks like Zed from being able to snowball games out of control.
