Contrary to popular belief, Sona can be pretty unforgiving to a newcomer, not to say that she is difficult though

She has the lowest defenses in the game, has no escapes or on kit CC and being unfamiliar with how much abuse you can take can often lead to her feeding hard

I'd like to learn about her curves.

Yup.

First off, you need to survive the laning phase, and there are a few things stacked against you there.

  • 3rd lowest base HP in the game, but the other two start Dorans items, so she's dead last.
  • 325 movement speed and no escape (Sona's E is shit early game).
  • Needs to get into auto range to trade effectively.
  • Heal is very inefficient.
  • Aura ranges require that you stand within 400 range of your ADC in any actual fight, leaving you vulnerable.
  • E is a dead skill.

Mid-Late game, she provides insane value to her team if you can tag all of them in your auras, and Power Chord/Crescendo scale great.

  • Up to 150 (+1.5 AP) total on hit damage from Q every 2.64 seconds.
  • Up to 625 (+1.5 AP) total shielding from W every 3.3 seconds.
  • 14% (+.06 AP) movement speed from E with a 75% uptime.
  • Massive % damage reduction.
  • Good burst.
  • Good slow.
  • AOE stun.
  • Initiation potential.

Thing is, there's problems even then.

  • Needs AP to really shine, which you'll just have to fit in alongside all the support items your team needs.
  • Still very squishy.
  • More mobile, but still pretty immobile.
  • Needs to be closer to the fray than she'd like to be.
  • M A N A
  • Encourages the team to clump, which can go very bad very fast against AOE champs.

You get in the habit of remembering to bring your keyboard. It really does change your win rate by 8%
