I was fortunate not to have an issue, but I feel for those who have. My name has no special significance in particular, but I've had it for a long time, so I'm kind of attached to it.

Simply, Riot wildly mismanaged account migration. They propose that using a single log-in is a fantastic design while at the same time screwing over tons of users out of their username. Sure, it's not the summoner name, but no one should have to log in with the username "EternalTorment1" because Riot couldn't figure out how to properly migrate the accounts. Why not just make everyone log in with their email instead? It's such a universal practice.
Honestly, I feel like some people were kinda given the shaft. If you played any of Riot's other games and used the same username, you had to change your sign in name. So, by supporting Riot and playing in the PBE, Legends of Runeterra, and League of Legends with the same username, you now have to change. I don't hate it, because nobody will ever see it. But it's hard to go from using the same username everyday for every game/account/whatever to a completely different name. Annoying to say the least.

I accidently logged into the wrong site when updating PBE a few weeks ago and got it auto updated on accident.
I think for now, it's for those who have a normal account and pbe (or in my case applied for the pbe as I have never been able to access the pbe :( ). Granted, not a huge deal as it is just the login name not the summoner name. My issue or what makes it a pita in my mind is I have been logging in w/ that username for 6+ years.. Now I have to use something else so I have to mentally adjust to typing in a different username where I automatically want to type in my old one. Get the error info is incorrect and like oh right, that isn't my username anymore... Glad only one account was linked to pbe so my alts are safe.... for now...
Well friend, you were smart enough to not use your own username twice on two or more different regions like us plebs who now can't have that name on either of our accounts.
