My reaction everytime my top laner loses to a pure-melee champion (like Sion or J4).....
.....as a ranged top (like Quinn).

Sion isnt pure melee champion. His E has long range and does good damage if maxed first.
j4 is actually quite mobile so he can jump at the quinn bullying her with his shield to avoid the damage and sion would just go some ap cheese and punt minions at her all game
Pure melee champs are like this 
. They have zero ways to deal with a bad matchup other than counter-building and waiting either for the jungler or the opponent to make a mistake. Both Sion and J4 have tools to help them deal with ranged opponents.
