New bots are a step in the right direction but I would like to see more.

I play a lot of AI with my friends on the weekends because... for some reason... they only like playing AI. After playing a bunch of AI matches I noticed a few things.

  • Bots using Flash-Ult combos is very over hyped. I have yet to see this. Very sad. Prepared for nothing.

  • Bots are more human-like... to an extent... but are dumber. They get to the tower prior to minions spawning (good) but they will keep coming at you, if you can lure them out, until you poke them down for an early first blood (bad).

  • They don't seem to understand self buff abilities. For example: Garen will often activate his Q and never attack anything or attempt to even get in range to use it. He will also use his W when he isn't even in danger of being attacked.

  • They do work together more. I was ulted by a WW bot while under my tower and two other bots followed up on the ult, killed me and then got out of turret range. This impressed me because I have never seen bots do that.

  • They don't seem to understand trap abilities. I haven't seen a bot even attempt to avoid Jinx's chompers or a Cait trap.

  • Their pathing is much more human like. They don't just stand around or walk in straight lines. Their pathing is unpredictable just like a real player's.

All in all I think the changes top Bots were good. Maybe one day this will lead to some level of bots above Intermediate. Maybe bots will react to buffs/dragon (I have been attacked by 3 bots while I was taking dragon. I died, dragon attacked them and they just walked away...) Some slight tinkering could be done to make the currents bots better but I am impressed with these changes. Good job, Riot.

I made a very similar topic stating many of the same things that you have. As for the "trap" abilities, I believe that occurs that way for the same reason that bots can't flash over walls--they detect an object, but they have no idea of telling what that object really is. They can tell an object is there, and they know that it isn't impassable(as you can step into the space that it actually occupies) so they simply attempt to plow right through it. That being said, maybe the could add some coding that causes them to avoid such skills? But if they did, how would they prevent them from ALWAYS being avoided? As the Bots have knowledge of the entire playing field more or less, they would know where all your traps are and automatically avoid them. If you put them in a bush, as soon as they stepped into that bush they would gain that knowledge and again avoid them. I would like to see this worked out, however.

They don't understand Olaf at all, they target those with low health meaning they attack him when deadliest.

When it comes to things like traps, terrain and towers from what I understand this is a workable problem but it lies within the bot system as a whole and not the bot's high level coding. Essentially, they don't see the terrain or anything terrain-esq like traps. They only see the numerical representations of players (health, mana, cooldowns and other stats) and other unique criteria (turret aggro, turret damage). These recent changes were simply adding more criteria and more "if-then" conditions than they had before.

Pretty much what I'm getting at here is before we can get advanced navigation, jungling, trap avoidance and ambushes from bots we'll see a complete bot behavior overhaul before that. But it is possible.

Hey I would like to add something... They tend to bug out and proceed to run right into the enemy pool. Swear to god. I've seen a shyvana do it. I got a free kill, but it's still...a little weird.. that was the only encounter I saw so far, but still weird.
