SUPPORTING TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS!!!

Hey everybody!! Reginyra here.

I just wanted to give support tips, as there doesn't seem to be many supports who know what they're doing, especially new ones. But that's normal :D

So I'm hoping I can help. While I'm still new to the game (only been playing for about 6 months), I'm told I'm a really good support. So this is what I do to do my job.

These are in no particular order, but supporting is harder than it looks as you have to resist the natural instinct to take or ensure the kill.

The number one thing, is to feed your own teammates, (meaning DO NOT TAKE KILLS) and not feed the enemy team (meaning do not die by enemy's hands). Here are some tips how to do that:

Learn your champion: learn the amount of damage you do and estimate if this will kill the enemy or not. if you're not sure and you see an enemy about an eighth of health, DO NOT ATTACK. go full support mode. Shield, heal, etc. I suggest only attacking in the beginning to help your teammates finish off the enemy.

Pay attention to details: this can range from many things. Notice if the enemy team moves lanes alot or has a jungler, that means get some wards. pay attention to your teammates health and yours, so you know how much damage each of you can take before you both have to get out and heal, what items will you need such as healing ones, movement speed, auras etc.

Predict the enemies movements: Now this is probably the hardest to do, but once you get the hang of it, you do it subconsiously. it will help you dogde skill shots and other things and live longer and warn your teammates. such as kiting, traps, etc.

And the last tip i can think of at the moment is if you can take the damage for a teammate and survive it and they cant DO IT!! It enhances the chance of them getting away as well as you. but definitely them. Protecting your teammates is very important.

These tips are in general. They might work for you or not.

Please let me know if these help or not :D

Hope you have some great and fun games!! See ya

The only thing I can really add is to make sure you have good map awareness. Keep track of where the enemy mid is, their jungler, ect. Personally ive mained leona for the past 6 months or so and have been playing since 2011. Also its not like getting a single kill means its the end, but certainly make an attempt to give it to your adc.

You know, I really like your attitude, and I would like to draw out a little further what you're presenting here in this post for newer players.

Now, as a small forward, I main mid, however lately I've gotten to the point where I don't get mid more often than I do. Luckily for me, my second most confident role is support, and I main a support leona that, if organized correctly, is dominant in lane and in team fights.

One thing I've noticed more and more about the support role is that you'll do MUCH better if you feel like the lane ISN'T about keeping your adc alive, or setting up the plays, but outplaying the enemy support. It's a mind game so to speak.

Some strategies that I've been doing lately, which I've been finding have worked is to look at the enemy supports item list when in game. How many vision wards does their support have? If they have two, get three, if they have one, get two. Either way, always make sure that your ward coverage in the lane is dominant opposed to theirs. When you do, not only do you set yourself up for "tha plays" but you also make your lane safe to gank, and more secure in what you do.

Also, keeping a timer out for objectives like Dragon, and always keeping a spare ward is good. Don't be afraid to ask other people to ward! Especially end game, ask your teammates to help ward the jungle. It helps save you from ambushes and backdoors.

Only use pink wards against AP Teemo. Cost more but you get a portion of the gold back. This allows you to see his mushrooms.

Make sure you are aware of the most efficent warding areas and aggressive vs. defensive warding.

Also if applicable: I've seen supports roam mid for a stun + gank on enemy middle.

If im forced to support (jungle wasnt available) I play thresh. Thresh is banned in most ranked games and has the tankiness, cc, and other mechanics that make him a good choice for support. My back up choice is Alistar. In all this is preference.

On both of those champions I usually buy a combination of health pots/pink wards/wards/sometimes mana pots depending on the moment. later I follow up with boots, legion, and sightstone (extra warding). By now its usually mid game and my next items depends on game scenarios.. whos fed? whats going to make the most contribution to my team.

When i play support I focus on itemizing correctly .. WARDING... TANKING and being a nuisance to force enemys to focus me.
