It's one thing to want to do something different, but only when it makes sense. AP Miss Fortune or Trist? That makes sense, they have some decent AP ratios (Ok I think AP MF took a hit after the changes, but you get what I mean). Panth kill lane bot? Yeah that makes sense, Pantheon's stun and damage can really get him or his buddy fed early. But AD Ryze? With his awkward auto animation and mid-low range? Tank Teemo, who's main use is to counter bruisers and be effective with his mushroom/poison damage? You can try cool things, but it has to make sense.
For example, I've run a Vi/Yasuo duo lane, to pretty decent effect. Their ults synergize well, so them laning together is odd, but not unfounded. Or I've once done Elise support; She has a decent stun, percent scaling damage and can solo drag relatively early. I've seen MANY different junglers pass through team builder as well--some worked well, like Zed or Renekton jungle. Some, not so much (Jinx jungle comes to mind. Ugh.)
All I'm saying is, sure, try oddball picks, but only when it makes sense. We all still want to try things that have a good chance of working. Annie support was once an oddball pick, and now look how common it is. But she has the tools to be effective in that role, people didn't just randomly say "I wonder if she could support well..." They were probably like "Hey Annie has several AOE stuns that are up relatively frequently. That would be useful for an aggressive bot lane." And then someone tried it and it worked.
