Thresh lantern needs some kind of counterplay

This is the most frustrating thing about playing against Thresh, when you have what seems to be a certain kill and then whoosh, they're just gone and there was nothing you could do about it. The best you can do is try to stand on the lantern and block the enemy from clicking, but that isn't an option at all when the lantern is closer to the enemy than yourself. And even when it is possible it's still hard to pull off and unintuitive.

There could be a brief channel, say 1 second, when someone clicks the lantern, and if the channel is interrupted the pull is canceled. During the channel the lantern-clicker gets a large shield so they don't just get blown up.

There is quite a lot in this game that lacks counterplay. I'm not trying to sound rude here, but Thresh's lantern is one of the more easily countered ones.

It's meant to be used as a way to save his teammates. It's like Soraka's/Nami's/Sona's/Taric's heals or Lux's/Lulu's/Janna's/Karma's shields. In those examples, the supports keep the target in the fight allowing them to potentially do more damage to you. Karma's/Nami's can also allow the target to run away or catch up to a retreating enemy.

Thresh's pulls his teammate to safety and away from you. That means you have a chance to get out too. It has nearly the same effect as Ezreal's/Caitlyn's/Tristana's jumps and the countless dashes in the game. I can also use the many traps/snares/stuns that exist in the game as ways of escape. Morgana/Lux have snares and Leona/Annie/Taric have stuns that can keep you from getting to your target in the same way that Thresh pulls his teammates away. All of these -like the lantern- have minimal counterplay, yet they are considered balanced by most people.

I will not deny that Thresh has a strong kit, but it's not hard to be strong when the other supports are so weak in comparison. This is the same reason why Annie and Fiddlesticks support are becoming common and Leona and Thresh are so popular. They can do the job of other supports better than the other 'traditional' supports.

Ignorance and facetiousness!

Here and there, i hear those annoying and disturbing loud voices all over this game lately. Is that new trend? Is that what every cool guy does nowadays?

Not everything in this darn game needs a counter play. Not at all. Fresh boys in the old country trying to take over the authority and make their law eh? Loudest ones in crowds has always been blatant fools and ignorants, my elders said.

Last time someone among these people mentioned that Skarner's mechanics was lacking counterplay, they fuckin wrecked Skarner and ripped him to the pieces. Now all young bloods should keep their mouths shut and stop using those words without completely acknowledging-grasping the full meanings:

1)Toxic 2)unfun 3)no counterplay

Now if you grasped the true meanings of them and are experienced enough in this game but still think that there should be no champions left with mechanics/playstyle that lacks counterplay, then you should definitely stop playing this game because eventually you will turn yourself into DotA. That's the place you belong.

I love the lantern as-is. My problem laning against him is that he has such hard combo power. Thresh hook = 2-3 basics from adc, and they dont even have to engage after that. It is easy to disengage with minimal damage (lantern) or go all-in and murder. I know thats mostly just sad to me cuz my adc's never seem to know what 'dodge' means, but it is frustrating how impossible it is to lane against him once he gets ahead.

Seriously though, his Hook range needs a nerf. That thing is too useful to be that potent. As a blitz main sup, I feel utterly useless against a thresh. He builds takier than me early game, has range poke, has as much damage, his grab can be used to disengage safely or to poke, his grab is also a stun (mine only pulls), oh and his grab is longer than mine. The only thing my grab has on his is that mine doesn't give a half-second warning windup. Every single skill he has can be used to engage or disengage.

the reason you don't see counterplay, is because is Thresh's that is actually countering you. When you see the lantern, it's all up to thresh's player to determine if that Lanter is succesful or not.

Unlike other escapes such as LB, Tristana's jump, etc, Dark Passage requires 2 players to be adequately positioned for the escape to be succesfull. What you say lacking counterplay is a series of passage that saw Thresh's taking the right time to detach from his teammate and stop what he was doing to be at the right time , in the right place to throw his lantern.
