Tips for a hopeful up and comer?

Hello all,

I have referred to myself many times as a weenie.

That being said I would like some help (motivation, rather) in playing against real people.

I've been playing against bots for some time now and I would like some advice for jumping in to actual 5v5 games.

I have played real games before with some friends and especially my boyfriend (who is level 30), however I still feel nervous during these games and I don't take well to people when they are negative towards me and I tend to do poorly when my whole team is negative (which might be true for others, but especially for me)

I am generally a nervous person when it comes to this game, and I am not well-versed in all the roles as of yet. There are a few champions who I would consider myself ok with and those are

Ashe as ADC or mid

Sona as support

Teemo as mid or sometimes bot

Ahri as top

Evelynn as jungle (SORT OF not really lol)

I guess what I'm trying to get at here is if anyone can help me answer the following questions:

  • How can I play the game and not feel scared or nervous when playing with toxic players?

  • Are there any tips on starting builds for the champions that I previously mentioned?

  • Along that same note, tips for building essential items for the same champions?

  • Tips for roles that I have not quite practiced that well yet? (Jungle, ADC, Top)

  • General advice???

Thanks in advance for your time and patience with me. I promise I want to get better at the game and I think if I am able to get help from more experienced summoners then I will be better able to hold my own when I get up to level 30 ;)

Just gotta get into the game. Normal games when leveling your account is meant to try out new things and practice, youll find ragers and toxicity everywhere thats just league =/ however the best would to duo with a buddy that knows the game well that way he/ she can give u feedback and givve u helpful hints. And if someone rages just mute them. just believe me the only scary games to play are ranked at lvl 30 :P peole rage hard.. you will be fine just gotta play them to get used to em :P.

What helped me when i first started playing normal games was playing with friends, knowing who you are playing with can make the transition much smoother. If you leave the all chat filter off than you should be safe from the harassment or the other team as well. I still feel nervous during some games, more so during ranked if I'm in my series, but i just try to relax and have fun. It is just a game after all.

As far as starting builds goes, there are some great websites that offer good build suggestions. I would suggest exploring some of them.

There are some items that just seem to fit on certain types of champions. Lifesteal item 3072 is almost necessary on ADC's and almost every AP champion builds a item 3089 . While there is not one true "correct build" its a lot of fun to try new builds and see what works best with your play style.

Your roles listed above seem fine to me. While Ahri isn't an orthodox top laner, I've noticed it becoming more and more common for AP champions to run with the bruisers in top lane. Keep trying things like this and who knows, maybe you could find the new meta.

General advice: Have fun. Don't be too serious and don't let the toxic players get to you. Try to play with friends to enhance the experience and make the transition easier. Most of all, just relax and enjoy the game.

I hope to see you on the Fields of Justice someday!

Honestly, my suggestion would be to start in Normal Draft Pick. Blind Pick can be cool if there's a particular champion you want to play, but Draft Pick is closer to Ranked games (if you ever intend to go that route). Also, you have a lot more time in the lobby to talk to your team, which can promote less negativity if you explain that you're new and you might need some guidance.

Also, with Draft Pick, you have less to worry about with people arguing about lanes which inevitably starts the game off on a bad foot. You can learn the strategy of champion choices and bans, etc, without the pressure of Ranked play.

No matter where you go, people are people. There are going to be bad games and people are going to be rude. You'll never escape that. Even thought I get annoyed and sometimes lose my temper, I've learned a lot from the ragers and people who are ridiculing me about choices I make. Sometimes they're right even if they are going about telling me in all the wrong ways.
