Does LOL need a slaughter rule?

One thing I notice from watching the D1/challenger/LCS matches. It seems like almost always that the team with the most gold at the end wins. Sometimes the gold leads can get pretty massive, like 10k or more difference.

At some point does it get statistically impossible (or extremely unlikely) to come back? If we can quantify it, perhaps a slaughter rule of some sorts could be added.

It doesn't have to be a hard method either. For example if the enemy gets a gold lead of X (and then again every Y gold), the game initiates a surrender for your side. Or if your team is significantly behind in gold or objectives it only takes 3 votes to surrender.

So why should this be implemented? Well sportsmanship for one. In a game like chess it is considered rude to drag games out until the bitter end. If you know you are going to lose, the polite thing to do is concede the match. Another thing is it might trim down on toxicity. If people are forced into a losing battle for too long, they are more likely to be toxic.

The majority of players do not play at a D1/challenger/LCS level.

While I don't pay attention to gold discrepancy very often... Throws are too frequent at my level for me to want an auto surrender at any point. I had a game where we were far enough ahead to go 5-0 in a team fight, push to their inhibitor... and then made a stupid decision to baron with low hp when they're about to come up and it cost us the game. We woulda died no matter how far behind the other team was (that's how low we were and how stupid the decision). The entire game was decided due to one terrible choice from a team that was quite far ahead.

At lower levels - the victor is often decided through mistakes.

Not to mention an auto surrender could CAUSE rage.

Imagine for a moment you're somebody who fights until the bitter end. It's not over until it's over. Your team is still fighting and you're holding out. Maybe you're limited to just farming right outside your base and can't even go in your jungle. But you're all playing safe, hoping to get those items you need.

Suddenly the game ends. Apparently they just killed dragon and hit that magical number that nobody in game can see.

Would you have lost anyways? Probably. But when you're team is cohesive and hopeful, an unexpected end without an enemy in sight and a safe nexus could be incredibly aggravating. I know I'd be pissed off.
