The basis of this is ive finally reached thirty and enjoy League so much. But i initally joined to play with friends but they went away and i was unable to play on their schedules. So I guess i was to afraid to start playing PvP until about level 19, from their i didnt really understand roles, smartcast, or generic strategy. Now ive hit thirty and wanna become a better player in pvp (as i stand im 41/49) The last couple of games i played areas im used to but just held my team back terribly. So i was looking for someone i can talk with and discuss ways to improve and learn roles with. I really like playing league but i dont wanna be that guy who only plays aram, hell one day id even would like to start playing ranked but as i am now i would put my team at a great disadvantage.

First I'd like to congratulate you for reaching out to the community for support. There are a lot of friendly and experienced players willing to help out.

Some of the first things you start to learn that make you a better player are positioning, last-hitting, and the often overlooked: communication.

Positioning: Where you stand, how you move, and when you do so all are very important to being successful in League. This will vary by role of course, but generally in lane you want to be close enough to get experience, far enough away to not be harassed, and angled away from the jungle as to be able to react to a gank. Teamfight positioning varies wildly by champion, role, and team composition, so practice is the best learning method for it.

Last-hitting: This comes with time. There's no real "trick" to it. It comes down to intimately learning your particular champion's damage, scaling, and animation speeds. Naturally, this will come with practice, so just keep it thoroughly in mind and work at it.

Communication: League of Legends is a team game. That means your success relies not only on how your teammates perform, but also on how well you interact with them. Pings are a great place to start. Learn each of the smart pings: when they are effective, what they convey, how your team reacts, and where to place them. Pings are effective because there is generally little bias attached. If you're having a bad game and your team is raging at you, your pings are still just anonymous enough for you to be helpful without causing a flame war.

Always be courteous to your team. If you're friendly and enthusiastic, you'll generally get a decent response and your team will be willing to work with you. This isn't always the case, but it generally helps, and at the very least will rub off on your mood and you may find yourself enjoying the game more. Toxic players are out there, and honestly your best bet is to not feed them fuel for their fire. If you ignore negative statements and keep everything you say positive, they won't have anything to keep them going, and your team can focus on winning.

That was quite the wall of text, but hopefully it helps. If you ever need someone to play with or show you some tips and tricks, feel free to add me.

I feel your pain. I'm a Lv 25 who has a few good champs in each role when I play Co-Op vs AI, but then I take those champs into PVP I get bad results haha. I've been flamed at for being awful in about every PVP game that I play in, and it's quite saddening to see me put my team at such a disadvantage. Some friends have told me the only way to get better at PVP, is to keep playing PVP. I'm not sure if that helps (it doesn't help me much honestly) but perhaps it may.

In any position that isn't support, you will need to farm. If jungle, learn to clear jungle quickly, and focus on helping a lane that is pushed to their turret. If any other lane, you need to learn to last hit 5/6 of a creep wave on average. Try to get the entire wave of course, but at least get consistent enough to get 5/6. More money means more power, and 15 creep farm is equivalent to a kill in terms of gold. If you are support, look up guides on ward placement. You won't think you need it, but there are good places to put wards, and there are AMAZING places to put wards. Most of all, this game is 90% positioning. Standing in the right place and moving well during a team fight is the best way to outplay an opponent.

  1. Play only 1 or 2 champs you enjoy at each role.
  2. Read guides about those champs and what champs counter those.
  3. Ward this is not just a supports job only. Games can be won just by having vision and denying vision for the enemy.
  4. If your computer can manage it try recording some of your games and watch what mistakes you have made and try to avoid making that mistake in your next game.

If you want you can friend me I'm willing to play some games to help you.

Last hitting is key when your laning, except for support. Especially if your the ADC or the mid. Mid you've got to find the play style that suits you. If you like nukers or sustain mages, or maybe a AD caster, it all depends on what you find to be most comfortable. ADC is a little different. If possible you want to duo with someone bot. Trust me, its so much easier to play when you know that you've got a capable ADC or support with you. Also figure out who works best with who. There are some combos, like Caitlyn/Janna (my favorite) or Draven/Leona that just can dominate. All in all, you just have to play. ARAMs are fun, and Co-op vs. AI can help you with mechanics, but you have to play PvP to get any better. Sure, there's gonna be those assholes who rage because your new, but those are generally the guys who think their the next Scarra or Doublelift, when in reality they are the rank as you. Friend me if you want to play, im always looking for new teamates.

Another good tip is to watch Pro streamers! You can pick up tactics, plays, positioning, and ways in which to use abilities that you may have previously not seen! Streamers are a great source of improvement material!
