Am I too young? I am 14...

I am 14 years old and I play League of Legends. I am level 30 and try my best in ranked. I do my best to seem good. I really like the game and have even spent a decent amount of money on it for a 14 year old. I play this game because it is a GAME and it relieves my stress from school and stuff. I was playing ranked though and my parents interrupted me mid game and I put it in chat for the weird behavior of mine for like 4 seconds. My whole team then TOLD ME I was 12.... I told them I was 14, but they all just said I should uninstall and I shouldn't play the game. They said I'm too young and suck too much. They even called me a fat loser when they don't even know my real name.... This disappointed me, I play League to get away from things like this at school, but really. I get them the game I play also? This depresses me. I know this is a game rated T for Teen, but seriously it is a rating, not a restriction. I just want to play a game without getting made fun of for my freaking age. Should I really uninstall?

Hey Silent,

I'm sorry you had a bad run-in. If you enjoy the game, then in no way should you uninstall. Competitive stuff can sometimes bring out some nastiness in certain people, and that's a bummer for all of us. I would definitely encourage you to report people like that because they just make the game worse for everyone else.

It's not always easy to deal with jerks like that, but we're not all like that, I promise you. :)

You can also mute chat or certain people which I know I've done myself several times.

Try not to take it personally. They're angry and lashing out, doesn't even have anything to do with you. Just do your best and keep having fun!

Thanks guys, I feel a lot safer about League now. I really like League and am glad I am encouraged to not uninstall. Thanks for the support. I guess the mute button really comes in handy.

I'd uninstall, personally. 14 year olds are far too young to be interacting in such an MP environment, especially one which can turn as ugly as this. And you better believe that a game's rating is a restriction.

However, there are some general advice to playing lol:

  • Never, ever enter ranked without full certainty that there is nothing that will distract you for the next hour. This is almost impossible to achieve while living with presents.
  • You've won about 25% of your ranked games. While you may be trying, you're just not playing well enough to be at the level you need to be.
  • When you're in a game mode where other peoples success and ranking rely on your skill, and you're subject to below level play combined with interruptions, you will get flamed.

All of this combines in a really nasty manner: You're not good enough to help your team, your team resents you for it, and flames you, and then you feel like this community hates you.

I'd stick to normals or bots until you're either a lot better, or significantly older.

At the very least, learn champions other than LeeSin Zed Renekton , you're playing those a lot and doing atrociously, they may just not be for you.

No, but be warned about the dangers of an online game like behavior such as this. I'm glad you enjoy League and it really is a great game, but the people in an online community can be very mean-spirited very quickly. Just remember that not everyone is like this and be sure to keep having fun. It'll be hard to do that sometimes, but keeping a positive and supportive attitude is very important.

If you're 14 and can keep a cool-head better the all the 20-somethings then you showed them how to really play the game! XD gl hf

Man Just ignore them. Ive seen some of the most ignorant and disrespectful stuff come out of these players when were losing or when a teammate is doing bad, and all you have to do is ignore. Literally, click the ifnore butto n and do what u gotta do to win the game. It helps wonders.

Heres an example;

-About a month ago I pick Poppy support, because its fun as hell and it works.

  • I immediately get flamed on for picking her because this person never saw it before so he thinks im trolling
  • This guy was a jungle Rammus. This guy is having a hard time early in the game
  • Gets counter jungled, gives sloppy ganks that end in his death
  • Guess what he starts saying in All chat, "report poppy for trolling" "troll pick" blablabla
  • I try to tell him Poppy support is legit but it doesnt work
  • He just keeps join. He eventually gets so toxic i just click the ignore button 0Im so glad i did because i was more focused on the game and started crushing it
  • I mean i was destroying their ADC, catching triple kills and all that good stuff
  • at one point the other team was telling our Rammus that he should be thankful for Poopy because Poppy (me) was wrecking them lol
  • My contribution to the team was so obvious that the Rammus stopped his toxic bashing (I know this because i eventually took him off ignore to see if he had anything else to say)

Just have fun with this game man. Its awesome, dont let others stress you. There are others that are very positive. Ive fed so hard before and my teammates were telling me its ok and that we can still come back, ver encouraging

No you shouldnt uninstall, trolls will be trolls and ragers will rage. Thats what the ignore button is for. If you want to play the game for fun then thats what you do.

Having said that if you do spend money on the game, make sure that its not a ridiculous amount because trust me when i say that for a teenager there are some better things use your money for. Like girls lol

Like many others have said, mute the people who rage. Age isn't what makes a good or bad player. You can be ten, or ninety, and all that matters Is your individual skill. Hang in there, man.

Your not to young to play the game enjoy it. Your brain and body is not fully developed and will help with concentration in the future.

It's not bad to be young and play League! I started playing online games when I was 11 or so.

As for the idea that this game is rated T, you are fourTEEN.

As for the ragers, ignore them, mute them in game, and if you want to report them. Whatever you do, do not retaliate back, just stay calm, and play on. I'm a female, so I get a lot of stuff said to me like "Go back to the kitchen" or "I want to do (insert nasty sexual stuff here) to you". I have also been called a fat, virgin, loser and told I should go kill myself on several occasions and I KNOW I am not fat, in fact... I'm the opposite of fat, and I know that as well as have a great life! Screw them!

TheMagic5002/25/2014, 2:12:30 AM1 votes

Just ignore them and enjoy the game like always.

You shouldn't have to uninstall this game because of your age.

There lots of trolls in this game I have seen that just want to make you mad or just having a bad day but not always do you have to play a game with them.

I am just 1 year older than you and I sometimes get angry but most of the time I sit back and play the game and act like they are not even there.

i feel you silent, ive had the same stuff, chin up, mute them all and if adc, screw the enemy team to bits and pieces

I wanted to share one thought with you about my experience. I purchased one of the leveling boost, and I flew through levels so quickly that it was clear to me I was well past the skill level of my opponents.

One thing you might want to think about doing is creating a second/smurf account and playing through the levels again.

This should give you a clear indication of your skill level. If you are flying through till the 20s, well then you know thats about where your play level is.

Another good thing is I believe its easier to try new champions when you play lower level games. I was strictly top lane and swore off ADC myself till I started a new account with Ashe, and now I love it.

Might as well get something out of your play time -- playing bot games provides you with nothing.

You're not really young for this game. Although it has some mild references and content, this game is still ESRB Rated T. And T is like 13 years old and up. Though you are 14- I strongly suggest not to spend IRL money in this game at your age. Just save up and trust me- you'll find out that it was a wise decision to not buy all those skins and champs with 9001 RP. Spend money on LoL if you have spare money(though I do prefer to save). Remember, LoL is not a F2P, P2W/Freemium game.

If someone complains about you, just laugh it off and thank them for it. I've done that so many times and they don't have any response to it. Then I just focus on the game and beat them to a pulp. Also, if you are feeling down about it, then just tell them to get over themselves. I know how annoying it can be but just troll them in the chat... not in the actual game.

I am going to get in trouble for this, but since when was High School - specifically classes - stressful?

<3 good luck keep playing and let the insults roll off, but it's funny.

Silent, You should just keep practicing and trying to get better every chance you can, I was once in Bronze where the most ungrateful toxic's are. But now since i did get better i became in silver. I believe that everyone can get better if they really try.
