Sona Nurf - wheres the gold?

Sona I am very new so forgive some newbe questions.

Sona just received a major nurf in my opinion. She was a champion I was just starting to love. Riots thoughts were because of gold flowing to her she would be too powerful. I am confused. I looked at the new items and Philosophers Stone which I normally purchase seems a much better gold source then any of the new items with the way I play Sona. Am I wrong? Is this just an excuse?

In the past I have tried to play Sona as a 'true' support as much as possible with some good success. What that means is I rarely CS. I make sure my AP is fed. I hover close to my AP so he/she receives the benefits of my auras. If an enemy champ comes too close I poke with my Q which helps to back them off. Now with the new change my already weak Sona, has been reduced to almost nothing early game. What is the use of a better end game Sona when Sona will get dominated and owned in the beginning and mid game?

Any thoughts? As a new person to LOL seeing this happen just makes no sense. So my question is Where is the Gold and what items would people even recommend for Sona anymore.

It seems like it is almost impossible to play her as a true support, I am unsure of what role she will have anymore.

She was nerfed because of how important she was to pro teams. Pretty much the only reason she got nerfed yet again.

She'll never stop getting picked because of how good Crescendo is, but hopefully they give her better utility scaling if they intend to keep her stripped of her former power.

I really do not understand the nerf to her healing. The damage I expected, but her healing needs to be left alone.

keep in mind this is the first of many patches in preseason. there will be ones to re-balance if they think they went too far. i haven't gotten to play yet. but i'll check it out and report back.

Been reading more and I am going to hold off on any more judgments till i have a time to play my Sona a few times. If I can truly get more gold I will have to see how well my abilities scale with the items I buy. Ranting over for now... The healing nerf really got me.

Even though Sona got "Nerfed", i still think she is a VERY viable champion. With Sona now you have two routes. Relic Shield for the extra early game gold. Or Ancient Coin for the added sustain, and passive gold. Relic's shield will give you more in the long run, but is more risky, and dependent that your ADC got one as well. While Ancient coin is a slower, but more reliable passive gold, because it relies on creeps dying around you. I personally build Ancient coin on Sona, and then if you are doing your job correctly in lane, you should have a couple of good assists.

Now at this point, you have an option or two. You could go more of the "Shitty Support" route of season 3, where you only buy items that barely help the team, or you can go the "New Support" of season 4. This "New Support" is a member of the team, and not someone to just be uselessly standing in the background of a team fight, trying to CC and then get out before they get melted.

Sona is the perfect champion for this new gameplay, which includes (at least when i play her) buying a Meji's as early in lane in possible, if you are ahead, building AP items, while actively warding, and then finally being a second APC for your team. You will do more for them as Sona with AP than Sona with support items. In my experience at least

Try building a Sona with Meji's, and some other AP items if you will, leaving a slot or two open for Wards. You will notice a win ratio increase with this style, as you will be more DMG dealing to the enemy. Sona's Q is OP still, and this play style shows people that. Just my personal experience though, might be different for different people.
