This isn't ok Riot
Ok, so I want to break this post into 2 quick (lol - it's me; never happens) parts. Part 1 - the video/match: Everyone and their mum seems to want to camp and cheese gank me top the last few weeks. Red buff, run across 3/4 the map and level 2 gank me? Yep, it's happened. Sit in a bush for 2 min straight just to gank me the second I leave tower? Yes. Flash just to land enough damage I have to base instead of stay by tower and heal up? Check. Bring 3 people when 2 plus ignite isn't enough? Been there. Well, this video shows me getting some payback on everyone for that. Unlike most, skarner actually learned his lesson. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the vid. I made some pretty dumb mistakes (q yorick under tower and give him shutdown - I meant to w first and finish off tower, then q and dash away); but also some decent highlight plays. A few great fid plays I tried to capture too.
Part 2 - state of game: So I've made about 2 posts now in regards to philosophy for how the game should be balanced. I won't go into extended detail here... you can look up my other posts and find the details. But let's suffice to say that this vid shows how stupidly overpowered some stuff is... either champs and/or items. Both are out of balance. Put in short, I believe champs need to be balanced among themselves/each other ignoring runes and items first. Champs might have differing powers at various points in the game, but they should have an overall powercurve which is equal to that of all other champs when you average their power over a full lvl 1-18 game. Then items and runes need to be balanced around each other such that they work well with certain champs or classes of champs, but not to where they make some champ too op (ahem, essence reaver renekton).
I say this as a renekton main. Essence reaver is TOO GOOD with him. However, without it, he's arguably not as strong as he should be. This kinda forces you to build the item or not play the champ. Which is a terrible way to balance in my opinion; balance champs around each other. And adjust items (such as essence reaver) such that they don't make a certain champ(s) broken or completely useless. If items or runes are making something too strong or leaving something too weak with no good options (mages with aerie/comet potentially), then we can be certain the problem is with the runes or items IF we balance champs properly around each other/powercurves to begin with. Thus addressing issues in the game would be made simpler. Because right now we have a roundabout way of doing things such that a change in champ, item, or runes can result in massive changes in the power of all 3... which leads to a blossoming of problems that require more nerfing/buffing/changing... which leads to still more potential problems... you get the idea. So please, let's balance champs among themselves based on full game powercurves and then balance items and runes around THAT. Stop making champs completely item dependent for their power and allowing items to make certain champs broken.
Lastly, avoid massive outliers. Stuff that's just stupidly strong at some point in the game that no other class or champ can compete with it. This is often "balanced" out by making said champ/class stupidly over-weak at another point in the game in compensation. Instead keep all portions of the power curve for champs reasonable. Ex: crit adc's... been left hella weak for awhile early game such that they were far too easily punished. But in return become stupidly overpowered late game... not that they could ever really reach that point in the game. Instead, tune down their late game power to a level other scaling champs can compete with and which tanks can reasonably tank against... and in exchange, improve their laning phase so that they have a REASONABLE chance to come out of lane alive and in a competitive state. They might be behind, they might be weaker than others, but they are viable. THAT is what needs to be done. Give all champs a fair chance at all points in the game. I shouldn't feel like I can't pick a crit adc cuz it's an early game meta. I also shouldn't feel like I have 0% chance to win past 35 min on aatrox or renekton or kalista for examples. Reasonable powercurves for champs, reasonable item and rune balance. Build your foundation - you can't balance all 3 things at once; champion powercurves is your solid base to build from.
