Checkers actually doesn't have much replayability. It's what's known as a "solved game," like Tic-Tac-Toe. That's why, although it's still playable at a casual level, there are no checkers tournaments.

I'm a Candy Land man myself.

Can't we all just agree that there are lots and lots of cool AF board games whose skill and depth are so grand we could play them for lifetimes and still find them incredibly fun and engaging?

That being said, there's this sweet Fate themed mahjong tile set, therefore mahjong is obviously the best game. Though I guess you could argue it is more of a 'card game'...

To the three haters on my post.

1. It isn't cooler because you haven't heard of it, though nice points for trying that line. It is better because as an actual game it has greater depth. Not that Go is perfect. But if you compared it to Chess it's like comparing a run down (but useful) pick up truck vs. a tuned and perfectly maintained Tesla/Sports Car/Other car example that would be here if I knew cars better.

2. I'm not a Koreaboo. I'm straight up 100% America loving American. Despite our flaws as a nation were number 1! (Though sadly we still need to work on winning a lol world champ and being better at imprisoning people to farm gold in mmo's, and yeah it's a joke calm down) So while I normally would report such a post for breaking board rules I'll let it slide because you're terrible at trolling.

I never said Chess was the worst thing in the world. I'm just saying as a board game it's limited. It was created a long time ago, and while that gives it a ton of advantages like being enshrined as a classic, it doesn't mean its without flaws.

Now it's fine to enjoy Chess, if that is your cup of tea, then you should by all means enjoy it. I plan on picking up a VR Chess game to play on my PSVR at some point because as far as I know they don't offer a Go-version or other kind of game where I can connect to a friend and have some drinks while playing a slow board game.

But you have so many other games to play that all offer something different.

Chess is static, it is one game.

Where as Go is another game, Small World another, Pandemic another. There are 1 v 1 board games, 1 v 5 board games, 2 v 2, free for all, ect...

All with varying themes, difficulty, and ease of access and set up.

We have RTS board games. We have huge Card games played out like a DnD campaign, we can fight a deadly disease and stop it from wiping out humanity, or do a host of other things.

But yeah, Chess is the ONLY game that can be a classic. Chess the ONLY game that can be the best. Chess is the ONLY game that can be awesome.

Listen, if you haven't enjoy board games other than Chess, fine by you, it's not mandatory. But until you get some real life experince maybe take your Chess Fanaticism and maybe dial it back some.

Chess like all things have pros and cons. You have to weight playing a fairly standard game that is off balanced, or you could play something fun that likely had a lot of play testing put into it to make sure it was not only a shit ton of fun, but that systems are fine tuned.

Anyways compared to Go Chess can't really stand up on anything other than ascetic. (Medieval Combat/Knights is pretty cool)

Chess is a shit game. Not only does it have several flaws, it happens to have an over inflated sense of value because people are stupid and think it's good.

Go is not only a much better game, it is also has way more style.

But sadly Korea more or less has a strangle hold on that game so it won't ever really be popular like Chess is.

But then you realize "Hey! I'm a gamer, I have a ton of board games, card games, and video games, and I can ignore shitty overated chess."

lets keep it to one of the best.. Each board game has its pros and cons - ie, take the d&d&d from Gravity falls: it is possible to be created irl right? It does have its set of flaws though.. (no clear rulebook), same is with chess: it is good to predict and.. understand, kind of the board, yet has no board futures aside from the 32 figures.. which just move around.. and.. sorry, but that's it for the most of the part.. also, even though many may deny it, it is a finite game.

before you ask, yes i have played chess quite a bit (still not too much!)

just.. there isn't a perfect game as they are all limited in some way, and everyone has their own prefs right :p
