Riot adds lootboxes.. nobody says anything...

I don't get it.

I've seen this mentality in gamers before. 1 game or comapny does something its the end of the fking world, yet another does the same exact thing, and nobody says crap.

You realize Riot literally put in gambleboxes and or lootboxes in the SAME exact fashoin that EA did in Battlefront 2 right? Where's the outrage? the outcry? the pitchforks and fire?

As has been said, you don't have to pay $60 to buy the shell.

Also you can buy everything you can get in loot boxes. They become a lot more insidious when you can't purchase things directly, since you have to spend tons of money gambling on loot boxes if you want a specific skin.

League gives you the ability to play the game and buy things normally, with loot boxes as a side bonus (rather than a core component of the marketplace). I've personally never bought one since the standard store is an option.

yes NO ONE has complained about this on here

NO ONE

loot boxes aren't an issue in free to play games because the company needs a form of income. everything that comes out of a box is cosmetic if something like runes or anything else that would directly affect the game then that would be a problem. so no it's not the same as battlefront 2's star cards

Because EA's game you still have to pay for up front, a full $60 minimum.

OurLestrade11/18/2017, 4:01:36 PM3 votes

It's a free to play system. It's spending a bunch of money to earn the right to spend even more money or earn a strategic advantage in game that's shady.

Just about every post in HOT is complaining about the blue essence system.

Which isn't exactly the same as the lootbox argument, but they're pointing out the immense amount of essence and grind required to get things.

I'm fine with the new system as long as Essence gains are brought up to par.

I said it a few times, im just not popular enough on here for it to matter. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

I am pissed that Riot has loot boxified their whole system, but it is pretty different. Champions in League are (theoretically) all relatively balanced to one another. EA on the other hand is already charging people $60 up front and then expect to get a shit load more off of loot boxes which are entirely pay to win.

I don't think acquiring champions with money is pay to win because even if you're doing something off meta like 99% of champions in the game can be competitive. EA is selling raw stats. It would be like if Riot was selling +40 AD boosters in the store that made whoever equipped it have objectively higher stats than someone who doesn't have that upgrade.

That being said, even though it isn't pay to win it is annoying, especially because they seemed to have reduced key fragments which really blows as well as BE gain, which also really blows.

SupaDevilJuice11/18/2017, 4:29:54 PM2 votes

And then you realize there's still the old currency system and the boxes are just extra free stuff.

Seriously people, think.

Its different. LoL is F2P while I have to pay the triple A $60 retail for battlefront 2 and then be forced to deal with gamble boxes.

Gamer Life11/18/2017, 5:21:39 PM2 votes
  1. Its a fee game to play.
  2. its only skins that you can get, so its not pay to win

so it nothing like what is going on at EA

When Lootboxes were first introduced in League, It was as a reward program for doing well. Sadly, Even back then, a lot of people bitched and moaned about it.

Now when lootboxes are becoming the biggest source of BE and shit, People are bitching even more.

Otherwords: There was bitching, You just missed it.

Yea everyone fuckin hates lootboxes and everyone let everyone else know it on the boards. We just fuckin realized there's nothing we can do about it other than not buying the fuckin lootboxes. Riot doesn't give a shit. A couple hundred or thousand whales will keep the lootbox system profitable.

Hrbrt11/18/2017, 6:44:58 PM1 votes

EA charges 60 to 80 dollars for the game then put in a pay to win system. There is a huge difference between league's loot and EA's.

Riot Games makes PLENTY of money off every skin that is sold. Every chroma, ward flavor and purchasable icon. All of this is not lootbox based and they grew to be the biggest game community with incredibly strong profits. AND YET, they introduce loot boxes and purchasable missions. They throw them in our faces and have even taken over the entire default league client screen with information on Lunar Lootboxes. It's disgustingly unnecessary and nobody is going to be leaving league of legends over this but I can strongly suggest their lifetime sales will DECREASE due to falling out of favor with paying customers. Your throwing up so many places to purchase things, so often in our face and now with an addictive gambling element that you've lost the 'good guy Riot' mojo entirely while it exists. And without 'good guy Riot' mojo, your revenues will eventually drop in all areas but gambling and when gambling is most of your income your community will be fed up. Just stop Riot.

It's not apples to apples. League is a f2p game. That being said though, I've on multiple occasions stated my distaste with this new system as have hundreds of others on the forum.

People are not happy with this new system. Punishing your veteran players was a massive mistake, regardless of what graphs RiotJoe posts showing how it's basically the same for levels one to 30.

Heroes of the Storm did this correctly. You get gold per game to buy heroes with for free, and chests that come at regular intervals (there is no giant staircase for experience power per level... I.e. until level 50 it won't cap out, and even then it's a lot to level up). The chests give you skins and champs directly, or shards with which you can craft whatever you want.

Riots new system feels abysmally slow and punishing... I mean this isn't 2015. People are sick of loot boxes and their insidious nature of preying on people with addictive personalities.. why would anyone think they'd be better than what we had.
