So apparenly Steam can just delete any review it wants now...

I'm not going to post a link to the article, because I don't like the wording used in the title, but if you just google borderlands steam reviews you'll see what I'm talking about. When people found out Borderlands 3 would be an epic store exclusive, the older Borderlands games got a TON of negative reviews on Steam. And now Steam is just deleting all of them. What's the point of a review system if you can just delete the ones you don't like?

They are deleting ones that aren’t actual reviews.

Do you really not see anything wrong with people putting up false reviews?

Makes sense tbh. Review bombing something as a reactionary backlash to something doesn't serve the purpose of what the review actually is meant for. Reviews give consumers an opportunity to talk about the product. Complaints about business practices should be taken with the publisher who makes the decision, not the people who spend their time designing a product.

And here's the thing I don't get...the game was removed from Steam to Epic and people are review bombing Steam? How does that even correlate?

If they were removing real reviews with information that pertained to the game at hand, yeah, that'd be a problem.

But they're not. They're removing the reviews related to the Epic Games Store.

The reason those users are doing reviewing those games as such is because they're trying to criticize the developer for doing the exclusivity deal, not because the games themselves are bad. Steam was also making efforts to only remove the new ones that were in an effort to slam 2K games and Gearbox. These players can't review a game they don't own on steam and they won't own it on steam for another 6 months after release.

That said, TheQuartering on YouTube suggested a developer review system that would allow players to review devs separately from the games. This would likely solve the problem Steam is currently dealing with while maintaining the voice of consumers.

"I'm thinking about spending money on this thing. Is it worth the cost?" "No. Stay far away." "Why? What's wrong with it?" "I poured cereal into a bowl this morning and then discovered that I was out of milk." "Thanks. That totally helps me, a fellow consumer, make an informed decision."

I kinda agree that review bombing older games is off topic and should be scrubbed.

Is there a reason these people are not banding together to push for publisher/developer reviews instead? That would be more productive and not waste my time looking for a game if its already done well on its own.

Wasn't that because people were review bombing just to say fuck Epic games?

The fact that you guys are siding with Epic on this speaks volumes about this community.

Again it DOES NOT MATTER why they're doing it. People should be allowed to give a review for ANY REASON WHATSOEVER.

This is why I've never believed Steam reviews to begin with. People leaving bad information just because of something they didn't like about a company's methods despite the product actually being worth buying. You can't just go around lying your ass off about a product just to hurt a company, when what you're REALLY doing is turning people away from an otherwise good product that they would appreciate just because you said so without giving any reasoning for why the product doesn't deserve their attention. This is also why I enjoyed Mighty No. 9.

"Wow, this person loved this product. Were their needs similar to mine?" "Shop at Myer's Super Foods! All kinds of stinky fish for your cat, $1.99!" "Okay, that was a dry hole, how about--" "TOAD'S HORSE YOGURT! It's good for your tum-tum."

Off topic, but I'm pretty sure every Borderlands games in the steam store increased in price today (by a lot). The handsome collection (which includes BL2 and BL the pre sequel with ALL the dlc included) was like $15 yesterday. Now it's $60. Is this their way of punishing those bad reviews?
