Why is Qiyanna not an AP assassin?

It makes more sense to me that she would be AP since she uses magical elements. When I think of AD/physical damage, I think of someone hitting me with a solid object like a hammer, bullet, or a sword. When I think of AP/magic damage, I think of well something magic hitting me. Something fictional that doesn't exist in the real world is hitting me, or getting hit by something made out of a gas, liquid, or plasma.

All of her abilities is her hitting you with a magically-empowered weapon. She's not using any magic. It's all the hoop.

Okay, and she's hitting you with a circle blade. She's not hitting you with magic.

if i were to guess why i'd wager that it has to do with the pigeonholing of assassins in order to streamline how they play. they've systematically removed most outliers from the assassin role that dealt magic damage primarily and have placed them in the mage roll making sure that their abilities no longer provide the same gameplay affect as an assassin.

these champions all underwent major magic/physical and attack damage scaling/magic damage scaling re-balancing in order to fit between the lines of what separates a mage from an assassin or an assassin from another class of character.

you'll notice by looking at these characters older kits that they had the ability to buy hybrid items and in the right hands could become a really unfun champion to play against. However, not all were 100% changed. Some were left with that identity of "this character is meant to be high risk high reward" while others were forced into buying new items to create interactions or weaknesses.

the post about item 3147 is not wrong to a point because lethality was a re-imagining of armor penetration that was designed specifically for assassins to use in order to help curve their damage spike during a successful game. Duskblade was created as the quintessential item for assassins similar to how rabbadon, triforce, the income items, warmogs, runaans, and infinity edge all exist for niche gameplay elements that show up in most games.

if she's a jungling assassin then she likely needed the attack damage scaling for her basic attacks and the lethality items all provide attack damage.

I haven't seen her scalings or her damage types, but just because she buys attack damage items doesn't mean she is doing physical damage. She could very well be dealing magical damage to some degree just like how corki shyvanna and kogmaw deal magical damage.
