I don't think you understand the honor system. It's not about electing the MVP of the game, it's about rewarding sportsmanlike behavior.
The honor categories are

Sure, if you manage to carry your team to victory, that's honorable. But the 1/14 laner who kept playing to win without a single complaint is honorable too and personally I'd rather honor him.
Honors are a gift, not a right.
Happens all of the time when you play toplane. You're on an island by yourself, bot/support and mid/jg exchange honors with eachother.
There were several occasions where I would have honored the person who carried the game. But sadly, those fucks then proceed to flame/go afk because "it's lost anyway lol"/be a huge dick by trashtalking the enemy into tilting. I then rather honor someone else in my team, the midlaner for example who lost lane but did their best to come back and be super useful in lategame by having huge impacts in the teamfight. Being a dick is always dishonorable. Whining about not getting honors is also btw.
I realize now that maybe LOL can take a page from Overwatch where the players that have the best stats of things like most damage, healing, tanking,or objective control get displayed in the post game lobby. Cause let's be honest that Kassadin who just went 1/14 and did shit all game isn't gonna be honored by any reasonable person. Or at least if you show this stuff they can at least feel a bit acknowledged.
