If you think an anime about a savant pianist boy and a cancer girl is sad.

I tried watching that and the first episode was like, "we're children, and we basically fuck each other to pilot this mech"

And I was like...

I wanna see it, but I heard after like, the first 6 episodes, it loses its edge and just turns into mindless fan service and shipping characters together to appease fans.

It was a roller coaster. Not of emotions but of quality. Sometimes I was blown away, and other times I felt I had to trudge through the current episode. It starts strong, hit's a small dip, then recovers stronger than ever, drops a couple lore bombs here and there, hits a new low, and finally ends on an ok note.

I liked it, and as much as I hate sounding snobby, I wouldn't call it god tier.

I agree, DiTF is pretty sad. Every single episode was so terrible I cried. Then the ending made me cry tears of joy because I was finally done with that garbage show.

ill be honest i cried during some moments of ditf

Can we stop thinking an anime is good because it's "sad"? On a tangent, but Angel Beats isn't good.

DitF is bad for other reasons though. Main character seems to have no character and is dense. The world itself is illogical.

The first half was great. Then it went to complete shit at the end. >_>

I don't think Darling really counts as a sad anime. There are some sad moments/episodes, but having 1.5, maybe 2 episodes worth of sad out of 24 isn't remotely bad. Likewise, 2 of the major emotional 'sad' points come after Darling gave up on being a mecha anime and decided to become slice of life, followed by Trigger's signature random giant space battle to save the universe.

So half of the sad moments come after Darling threw away the emotional ties and impact it had. The other half are sad sure, but they're also 1 episode worth of sad left then and that hardly makes it great emotionally.

I also contest that it is not remotely a masterpiece. Taken as a whole it's slightly above average, and if you only take episodes 1-16 it is good. It does not cover anything new or groundbreaking though, and the latter half of the middle and the end are below average and bring the anime down.

Eww... darling in the franxx isnt sad.

If you want a good anime thats a tearjerker thats also really funny and doesnt have gratuitous fan service then you should watch ""hinamatsuri""

Dont think ive switched between crying and falling out of my seat laughing in a single episode as much as did when watching that
