The recommended builds aren't amazing, but they're probably better than what you're picking to go on your own if you're only using your own ideas and aren't very high ranked.
Sites like u.gg or op.gg will generally suggest better builds for you. u.gg even lets you put in who your lane opponent is and somewhat customizes the recommended build to that.
You should try to get an understanding of why certain items are built in certain situations though, rather than just blindly following a recommended build from the game or these other sites.
Its good to start with if you're just starting the game (Lv 50 and below)
Once you start getting better and start to know the game better, you'll realize the recommended build isn't as good as what you need. The recommended build is there for you to start a base, and then build other things depending on the situation.
Hope this helped
It’s OK to use the recommended builds when you’re trying to focus on learning something else, like a champion’s mechanics.
However, you should try to move away from the recommended builds very quickly. Experimenting with wacky builds - getting a feel for how each item affects your champion - will teach you to optimize your build for the situation.
Just look at some of the insane things you can do with enough knowledge: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gwC8RYqkHf4
Every game is so different there is no one set build. Those are just an idea to give you what items revolve around that champ
Tell you what:
Ill be on league today. Play with me, and I'll see how you play and give pointers to play better and build better.
Im not exactly high end player (bronze III sadly) but I can give you the basics of how to build and play, depending on matchups.
My name is Mr Dense on league.
You learn through experimentation. Recommended builds are fine but get into the habit of trying new things to become a more flexible player. Build items just to see how they do. Losing a game in league isn't exactly the end of the world.
