Who likes or dislikes the Epic store?

Epic is giving away a free game every week for the rest of the year. I shit you not. I've been playing Enter the Gungeon the past few days and it lives up to the hype.

I think most normal people see the Epic Launcher as just another launcher. "Great, I have to download another thing to play games. Oh well, not a big deal, it only takes 5 minutes to download and register an account anyway." That's really the only thing that you have to do.

Then developers will receive more money for each sale than they would have on Steam. Epic charges developers 60% less than Steam does. Which lets developers port less popular and more obscure games to PC. Epic also doesn't charge a premium to developers who use Unreal Engine when the game is sold on their launcher. So developers don't have to pay to get access to a really amazing engine. Epic dramatically cuts overhead for developers which allows devs to hire a bigger team. It gives investors more security in taking risks on new IPs or niche genres. And all you have to do is take 5 minutes to download a launcher and register an account.

Up until recently, I've always felt the biggest fraudulent circle jerk in gaming was the love some people have for Shenmue and Dreamcast. Shenmue sucked, it was the first walking simulator and Dreamcast had middling games. Now the Epic hate-train has supplanted Shenmue as the most irrational circle jerk in gaming. Are these people for real? There are some BS excuses for hating Epic launcher like there's no cart, no steam trading cards, and no friendlist. Who cares? No one bitches about that stuff on the GoG launcher, or Origin, or uPlay. Everyone uses Discord anyway for their friendlist.

Epic paid some developers for exclusivity on their launcher. I can't imagine why anyone would have a visceral emotional reaction to this. Maybe it's just Gen Z or i Gen depression. A need to lash out on someone or something because they see people on social media with better lives than they have. A developer took a deal to make more money on their product and now you as a consumer have to take 5 minutes to download a new client. One huge company won't be making money off the sale of a game whereas another one will. It makes me wonder if the Epic hate-train isn't just a viral marketing campaign brought about by Valve. Valve has something to lose here whereas the consumer has nothing to lose.

Oh, and make sure to keep your skin moisturized and apply sunblock.

Biased poll much?

Anyway, onto the important thing;

The biggest issue with EGS is that, instead of actually improving their service to give players a real reason to use it (and actually be able to compete with the likes of Steam), they instead try to force people onto their platform by buying out exclusivity rights. It's a toxic attitude, and will inevitably result in every digital storefront fighting for exclusivity over every game if it's allowed to continue.

One of the best things about all these storefronts is that we each get a choice of where to buy these games, and Epic is trying to take that away from us. They don't want to actually put the effort in to get results, they just want immediate results and they're willing to pay for it. There are other options beyond Steam that gives publishers more money, that is not exclusive to EGS, so if you really want to support the publishers, use one of those services, because all Epic cares about is how many people they've got buying their exclusives. The community comes second to profit.

I'm happy to use literally any other digital storefront, but EGS can go screw itself.

OP is a Epic Game Store employee lol.

The store is shitty as hell, the free games is fishing, doesn´t help developers.

Also you get a downvote for that r%%%%%ed poll.

I go to walmart for a reason. all the things I want are in one place, it's discounted, and if it breaks I can return it.

you cant buy tires, a microwave, bed sheets, and pokemon cards at a whole foods store.

and when you get your tires from autozone usually you don't get a two year warranty.

when you special order a car from a dealership, it's expensive as hell and the car has to be shipped. you cant just go pick it up.

nah. I prefer distributors to be distributors and game publishers to be game publishers.

the idea that you're giving more money to the developers is completely bull except in the case of indie games - because developers for a game studio don't get paid extra for every copy of the game that gets sold. that shit goes to the corporate fund. they're hired for a project and are paid a salary or a stipend prior to the game being released. that's why when a game doesn't do well companies go bankrupt. They're investing a loan into their developers.

They went into this a year too soon, and are trying to use strongarm tactics to acquire users despite that fact. That alone is reason enough for me to have no respect for them as a game client right now. When they eventually get their shit together I won't have much problem, aside from the mild annoyance at needing to run a different launcher to play a couple of games when I've got the other 200 on steam.

There are some BS excuses for hating Epic launcher like there's no cart, no steam trading cards, and no friendlist. Who cares? No one bitches about that stuff on the GoG launcher, or Origin, or uPlay. Everyone uses Discord anyway for their friendlist.

The only stupid thing on that list is trading cards. The cart, friends management, and everything else their client lacks are all legitimate reasons to refuse to use the EGS, and that's before we even get to the exclusivity nonsense, or the big sale where developers pulled their games from the store to dodge the sale. Not everybody uses discord for the friends list either, so stop grasping at straws. And what the hell difference does it make to you, anyways? None. It doesn't matter which storefront people use. If you like epic then fine, you use epic, but that's no excuse to whine about other people sticking to their preferred storefronts.

Thanks, snagged it. :)

How do people have time to play so many games, by the way? I mean ordinary people who play games as a hobby/pastime, not professional Let's Play streamers or reviewers or what have you.

I can understand why people are upset, but I don't personally agree with it on some things. I don't really care that I have to download another launcher, it is whatever to me. That said, I'm going giving them a year to fix their store before I say it isn't excusable.

I pay good money to my anti-virus company to keep malware like the EGS off my fucking computer, so why would I go and download it myself?
