I've never played survival horror before but i get the feeling the tension will actually just make me mad.

Well, the remake is better for newcomers than any other RE game. If you don't feel comfortable with some of the elements, like limited ink ribbons and ammo, you can just turn down the difficulty, there's not shame in doing that.

And yes, it's very, very good, and worth your time and money.

From what I've seen, they use the camera system from the 3rd Person Resident Evil titles like Resident Evil 4 & onward. One of the features from the early Resident Evil titles (and other Survival Horror titles like Silent Hill) were Fixed Camera Angles, Back then enemies could literally come from around the corner & you wouldn't see them until the last second. When Resident Evil started using the 3rd Person View (over the shoulder), it became a bit easier to see enemies coming since you're camera wasn't in a fixed location. They did manage to keep the tension high with stronger enemies & the music, a great example would be The Regenerators from Resident Evil 4 (you can literally cut the tension with a knife when they show up).

They also used the Item/Inventory System from Resident Evil 7. Just like Camera Angles, managing your Inventory was a big factor in Survival Horror games back then as well. Conservation of Ammo/Healing Items with a limited inventory was very important because you would never know if a Boss-Type enemy would pop out at you. For example, it would be much better to save your Shotgun Shells for a Boss rather than just using it to one-shot the lesser creatures.

Overall, the game looks really good & definitely worth a pick up. While I don't have much knowledge on RE2's story (I did play Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles, which covered the events of RE2), It was one of the more popular titles in the franchise & so far the Remake is doing just as great as the Original RE2.

No. You should play Resident Evil, if you are interested. It costs less, it's a great game and, most importantly, it's the first one, not the sequel. However...

i get the feeling the tension will actually just make me mad.

You know you. So you'll definitely get mad and probably should skip it then.
