how does honor level work

hello everybody, i've been honor level 3 with no checkpoints for like 2 months now while i get honored every game. i even get the messages from riot saying i have 90% more honors then the avarage player. so how can i not even get any checkpoints while i get 90% more then the normal player. i might not properly understand how it works because i think this would mean that i'm going up in honor level but this has not been the case at all. would anyone care to explain me why this might be and how the system properly works

Tbh I’m not too sure and would like to know as well. I rocketed pretty quickly to honor level 5 and most of my friends have been stuck at 2 or 3 for awhile now

It takes a long time. You need a lot to move up to high honors, as it is supposed to be a judge of your for the entire season. So it can take most of a season of constantly climbing honor levels to reach honor 5 (this is so nobody can just be toxic af for the first half of the season, then grind out honors at the end for rewards).

Furthermore if you are being negative in game, it can slow things down. Overall, while getting honored provides a small boost, it isn't required to reach high honor ranks. The most important thing is that you are not negative or toxic in game. Basically whenever you are toxic it slows it down, and when you get honors it speeds it up. The most important thing is just to keep playing and trying to win, and slowly but surely you will rank up as long as you don't get a chat/restriction/ban.

Apparently it doesn't even work that way did you know. They look at your behaviour ingame somehow. I don't know how it exactly works or if this is just to keep you as positive as possible but that's what they said to me. Let's hope they will fix this stuff because I'll never make it to honor level 5 in any other way.
