A controversial subject

I don't think its right for Riot Games to permanently ban account for toxic chat. Cheating, continually throwing games, win trading, sure. But I really don't think that "toxic chat" should be something that gets an account taken away from you that most people spend money on.

Yes, I did have an account permabanned. Since then I have moderately reformed. I still get "toxic" sometimes, but nowadays it seems like toxicity, along with just about everything else, is a matter of opinion. For example, I was playing a game and my jungler came to gank my lane, failed it, died to my laner, and I said "Don't gank my lane anymore". That, to him, was a toxic statement and from there they tilted and became toxic themselves. From there things tend to escalate in most situations that I've seen and "ban worthy" things are said or done. But I don't think those things said should be "ban worthy".

My reason for my opinion is because there are countless other games that you play online in which people are as toxic as people on League and possibly more so. Every one of these games has the option to mute the player that is bothering you. From that point you should just move on. If they intentionally throw the game then let them and send out the report.

I just don't think that Riot should ban people for things that they say. Riot Games doesn't know what that specific person is going through when they say the things they do. I wish I was a little better at putting what my thoughts are into words, but the bottom line is that they shouldn't be able to ban people for what they say. In my opinion its stealing people's money.

Again, like I said, cheating, continually intentionally throwing games, win trading, etc. Fine, ban them. But we as players have the tools to silence toxic people in the one game we might ever have to interact with them in.

If you purchase a gym membership and pay a bunch of money to be part of their community, you do so under the agreement that you won't harass other people who attend that gym. If you go and flame someone at the gym because they aren't doing an exercise right, or they're in your way, you're going to be kicked out from the gym.

"But Muxxik, the gym doesn't know what that specific person is going through when they say the things they do." It doesn't matter what they're going through. You made an agreement when you joined the gym not to be toxic and make everyone else's experience worse. It's the same agreement everyone around you was keeping, and it's why they're still allowed to attend.

If you fail to honor an agreement you made when you joined, then no one is stealing from you. You failed to honor the agreement, which included you losing what you paid for (be it a gym membership, a bunch of skins, or anything else).

Obviously you feel entitled to being a jackass, so here's a breakdown...

Riot makes the rules for their game. If you break those rules, Riot should punish you. If you continue to break those rules despite lighter punishments, escalations are warranted. Ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for breaking them.

I still get "toxic" sometimes, but nowadays it seems like toxicity, along with just about everything else, is a matter of opinion. Doesn't matter what you think. Riot makes the rules and found you violating them. If you don't agree with their rules, then don't play their game.

My reason for my opinion is because there are countless other games that you play online in which people are as toxic as people on League and possibly more so. Every one of these games has the option to mute the player that is bothering you. From that point you should just move on. If they intentionally throw the game then let them and send out the report.

This is gonna be fun!

  1. The mute button isn't an excuse for you to be toxic. It's not the other person's fault you failed to control yourself.
  2. Reiterating the two above points, it's Riot's game and rules. Find another if you disagree with the policies.
  3. To say that the mute button is the solution means you are not willing to control yourself and thus pinning the blame on others to hold your hand with your behavior.

I just don't think that Riot should ban people for things that they say. Riot Games doesn't know what that specific person is going through when they say the things they do. I wish I was a little better at putting what my thoughts are into words, but the bottom line is that they shouldn't be able to ban people for what they say. As the other poster said, it doesn't matter what you're going through. Don't take it out on random people who have no business with that. It's not stealing if you broke the rules and the rules state that punishments come with no liability to you.

Again, like I said, cheating, continually intentionally throwing games, win trading, etc. Fine, ban them. But we as players have the tools to silence toxic people in the one game we might ever have to interact with them in.

So you think it's the responsibility of the 4 people you're matched with in every game to use the mute function instead of you learning to control yourself.

This isn't a controversial opinion. This is you refusing to admit that you're the problem.
